Ghetto Swing is a new compilation with a fresh take on one of the most exciting new genres of our era, Electro Swing. Whilst keeping to the tradition that meets 1940s and 1950s sampling with 21st century style clubbing, Ghetto Swing introduces the grit and grime of hip hop, reggae and dubstep.

"Breakbeat Paradise Recordings is very proud to finally drop a full 4-track EP with one of our favorite producers in the funky breaks scene: Mr. Rory Hoy. Rory has strong roots in the sounds from the bigbeat era, but on the Funktopia EP he is showing a new side to him by dropping some more bass heavy ghetto funk type jams. To embrace this more club oriented sound he’s brought along some fellow ghetto funk producers such as the upcoming ghetto funk wonderboys: Phibes as well as a true legend in the funky breaks scene: Skeewiff. Finally he has teamed up with funk producer PulpFusion on the final cut on this EP.

Rory has been successful in reaching outside the nu funk scene to a wider audience and has even had tunes getting picked up by Disney and has featured on British and American TV several times and his tunes are played on some American TV Shows and in stores like Macy's and on internal Airlines. Rory have had 5 albums released on Freddy Fresh’s Howlin’ Records label and has had support from people like Fatboy Slim and Mr. Scruff. Rory has been bringing his funky sounds all over Europe including doing an opening act at the Official Tour De France Fan Park in Harrogate. Rory approach to music being in a fun and vibrate form seems to have a broad appeal across the board and here at BBP we have been loving what he does from the get-go.

So get ready to get your boogie on, cuz this release is all about having fun and getting down to the funk grooves.

The EP kicks off with the bass heavy Ass Shakers Song, which shows the ghetto funk style that Rory has adapted on this particular release. This jam has everything we love here at BBP: from the oldskool funky breaks to the crisp ghetto funk basslines – all beatifully arranged for dancefloor destruction. 
Phibes follows up with their remix of the Ass Shakers Song by capturing the essense of the samples from the original track and adding some of their signiture ghetto funk beats and wobble basslines. This remix is a sure shot for any funky dj and it will blend in perfectly in any ghetto funk DJ-set. 
On the flip side we see legendary funky breaks producer Skeewiff picking up samples from one of Rory’s album tunes and turning it into a disco inferno. Classic funky breaks at it’s best. 
Finally Rory teams up with PulpFusion to drop a bigbeat inspired jam to set things in perspective as the EP is running out. Look out for PulpFusion’s upcoming Funk Never Sleeps 12” vinyl – which also includes a remix by Rory Hoy – coming soon on BBP."

While XyloSWING was all immediacy, UPSIDE DOWN is, by contrast, a real grower. This is a club-land connoisseurs tune. You may need to listen twice to fully appreciate this slowly unfolding electro swing bomb, but be assured - the first time you hear this on the dance floor - you will be asking the DJ what the name of that tune was!

Bombstrikes continues to expand its musical horizons via their growing series of expertly curated compilation albums with this, the first volume of Disco Funkin'. For a label so at home in all things Funk related, it was always going to be something special when they added Disco to their focus whilst of course keeping the funk very much at the core. And who better to curate the first album than the fast rising stars Shaka Loves You. Having gained the Craig Charles seal or approval on air many times and also supporting legends such as the Jacksons and The Sugarhill Gang, the Glasgow duo have already shown their pedigree for such music. As recent releases from the Shaka boys show, they are carving out their own sound within the scene and always deliver music of the highest quality.

The duo's skills at seeking out killer grooves are very much on show here with the album's track listing reading like a 'who's who' of the scene. Avoiding the obvious route and disco cliches, the pair have assembled an exquisite range of music spanning across many elements of forward thinking disco and funk. Featuring a selection of album exclusives including new material from the boys them selves, there are also some stone cold classics and new discoveries from the likes of Dimitri From Paris, The Reflex, Kraak & Smaak, Lack of Afro and Sebastian. Further highlighting how the compilation has such a high calibre of artists and a diverse take on the sound is shown by the inclusion of not one, but two members of legendary Hip Hop group Jurrassic 5, in the form of Chali 2na and Fullee Love (Aka Soup).
There is more than enough music here for both the most ardent disco fan but also the more casual listener as well. If the track listing wasn't enough already there is also a DJ mix of the album to take the listenor on a journey and keep things grooving. This is a heavyweight compilation and sets the bar extremely high for what is follow!

He has performed regularly at Boomtown, Womad, Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, Istanbul Jazz Festival, Artisti in Piazza and Django Festivals in Pennabilli, Italy, and Cloud Cuckoo Land, as well as Festival Number 6, Glade, Strawberry Fair, Harlequin Fayre, Big Love, Bimble Bandada and Small World festivals, with numerous appearances at the London Remixed Festival. He has supported Parov Stelar at a sold-out gig at the Forum in Kentish Town, London, and has travelled regularly to the famous Babylon Club in Istanbul to perform marathon Friday night sets. He supported French act 'Zaz' in KüçükÇiftlik Park, Istanbul, performing before a crowd of about 8,000.
