Recorded Friday the 11th of June 2022 at the Ministry of Sound Testament: A Warehouse Experience - Its live, its a little loose, but this set really captures the energy, spirit and vibe of one of my rave DJ sets back in Sydney in the early 90's. I loved the early piano rave tracks, when you dropped them, the dance floor went mental, hands in the air, everyone on the same buzz, all loved up, euphoric and totally mad for it. 
For those fortunate enough to have been there I hope it takes you right back and for those that weren’t here's a little taste, close your eyes, hands in the air, rave on :)

Phil Smart has been a fixture on the Australian electronic music scene since the early warehouse rave days in Sydney. He has played lots of records to lots of people in lots of clubs, bars, warehouses, fields, deserts, basements, carparks and bunkers over the years. He’s renowned for playing fresh sounds and forward thinking electronic music, and has been involved in running some of the most legendary parties and events in Sydney and beyond. Phil has even played all around the world and alongside many premium international talents, at many festivals, clubs, bars and venues.

Phil has one of the most extensive DJ resume’s in the history of Australian DJ’s. With too many affiliations to even mention in this write up. Phil has left his mark and influence all over the scene since the late 80’s. From holding long standing residencies and playing at many iconic dance events that have paved the way for Australian electronic music, to releasing music on diverse labels such as Motorik, Junkbeats and Future Classic, to running an eclectic history of club nights with focuses on specific genres, tempos and eras of music, to co-founding Burning Seed - Australia’s first and largest regional Burning Man, to DJing and curating music for Yoga and sound healing events, to running record labels and so much more. Phil is the DJ’s DJ of choice.

This exquisite 50 minute all vinyl mix is a brief glimpse into Phil Smarts deep vinyl collection, featuring trip hop tracks that are all pre-2003. If you listen closely, you can hear the crackle in the recording. Phil has searched his crates to uncover old and lost vinyls with rare tripped out sounds, swinging you right back to that 90s flavour. Let this mix take you on an excursion through beats with class, bass with style, melody with soul and a unique energy that only wax provides. It is an honour to feature Phil Smart on the Low-Key Reservations mix series, hopefully the first of many volumes from this DJ wonder.

Has supported New York's John Morales, The Bamboos and others.

ABOUT GROOVE SCOOTER RECORDS 
Based in Sydney, Australia, Groovescooter is an independent record label, production house, film music supervisory/licensing service, events company and remix team founded by long-time friends/collaborators Georgie Zuzak and Paris Pompor. The two DJs and music collectors had played in various bands together and separately in the ’80s/’90s,  before setting up the Groovescooter record label and their DIY studio in the late-’90s. In 2019, the label celebrated its 21st birthday with the launch of its vinyl-only 45 imprint, Thr33-Thirty Seven Records co-run with another friend and music fanatic named Nico. The imprint’s first two releases were Oyobi’s much-loved Gamble & Huff/Jean Carn 7″ remake of Don’t Let It Go To Your Head, and a reissue of Aussie jazz-funk rarity Pink Steamroller by The Life Organisation. With one foot in their ’80s femo-funk-punk and queer disco pasts, the other in the dancefloor’s fluid future, an enduring love of new and vintage soul, funk, jazz, electro, Afro, Latin, reggae and tropical vibes inform most of what they do and love.
