Être Ensemble—an homage to the DIY space Être and a farewell performance there with an improvised band before its closing in 2019—is an umbrella project of Joni Void, an abstracted form/hybrid of collaboration, recordings, remixing, sampling, improvisation, sound editing, etc; essentially, output that sources improvised/jam recordings with friends and/or their own material reshaped into new narratives combined with Joni Void's own processed samples and cinematic atmospheres.

The first half, CLOSE, was originally released via our digital imprint A Red Thread in October 2021. It is a remix/companion of I - L by Madeline Johnston as Mercury Tracer, a collection of electric piano miniatures that was released on tape with Jean’s label Everyday Ago in May that same year.

The second half, SPACE, is a more recent offering that is based around/samples all (at the time) 6 releases by the Japanese tape label Babera Records, run by Nozomu Hirano. In February 2022, Babera released Joni Void’s Nostalgie d'une Porte Ouverte and Jean was gifted the Babera back catalog, inspiring the remix/sourcing idea for this second EP.

Aujourd’hui nous avons droit à un joli fracas de la part de @leonlouder, grand spécialiste du maniement des fragments rythmés. Sa carrière recoupe presque parfaitement celle de Schizophrénie, avec un premier EP paru en 2003. Depuis, il n’a jamais cessé de faire paraître des simples, remix et collaborations sous son nom ou sous son pseudonyme Vertigo Inc. Son dernier né, Entomophonie (paru en septembre 2023), une commission de l’Insectarium de Montréal, est composé uniquement de sons d’insectes. Il a également mis la main à la pâte en mettant en place l’étiquette @unfulfillment, faisant paraître les disques de plusieurs artistes partageant son esthétique parfois abrasive, notamment les montréalais Bouche Première et @oacem, ainsi que l’ottavien Classics of Form. Il nous présente ici un mélange de son matériel (incluant plusieurs inédits), celui de ses amis et “other stuff I like”, mais l’ensemble est incontestablement du Leon Louder.
