Januar is a dj based in bochum, germany. he co-hosts spark, a regular techno night at schlegel kultur club and has been putting out quite a lot of mixes recently that we really enjoyed, which is why we asked him to record one for our november broadcast aswell. //Was bedeutet deine Musik für dich?//
Zum einen fasziniert mich wie die Tracks, die ich spiele, aufgebaut sind. Ihre Struktur, der Rhythmus oder auch einfach einzelne Elemente. Zum anderen transportiert Musik für mich Emotionen und bestimmt oft meine Stimmung. Ich möchte mit meinen Sets vor allem positive Gefühle erzeugen und hoffe, dass die Menschen, die sie hören, eine gute Zeit und Bock auf Tanzen haben. 

//Woher nimmst du deine Inspiration?//
Hauptsächlich von anderen (Lieblings-)Künstler*innen. Oft suche ich bewusst nach neuer Musik und orientiere mich dabei an Artists, Labels oder Sets, die ich mag. Außerdem höre ich generell sehr viel Musik und stolpere so immer wieder über neue Tracks. Aber auch auf Events finde ich oft Musik, die ich in meine Sets einbaue.

//Was muss sich deiner Meinung nach an der Szene ändern?//
Auch wenn sich schon einiges getan hat, würde ich sagen, dass die Szene diverser und offener werden muss. Ich sehe immer noch viel zu wenig BiPoC, FLITNA* oder queere DJs hinter dem Pult oder kann Musik, die sie produzieren, kaum finden. Auch wenn bei Events auf Diversität geachtet wird, fehlt die strukturelle Ebene oder die konsequente Umsetzung von Konzepten dann leider doch zu oft und die Gestaltung der Räume wird - gern über Vitamin B - von denselben weißen cis-Dudes dominiert.
