I feel a little off kilter
There must be something in the air today
A cause for dismay
Seeping through the gaps of my cotton mask filter
I feel my heart rate climbing 
And the walls are closing in on me
My Chest, tightening
Heart palpitating to the beats
Of the same old
Stories forming in my head again on cue
When the well runs dry 
What’s left there to pollute?
With these conditions
What else are we to do
When the only way out is through?

This is a little unnerving
We’re surrounded by flagrant apathy
Lack of empathy
Symptoms of a nation of a people self-serving 
This is a vicious cycle
We never seem to learn from history
Doomed to repeat mistakes that run parallel
To the same old 
Stories forming in my head again on cue
When the well runs dry 
What’s left there to pollute?
With these conditions
What else are we to do
When the only way out is through? 

The tension’s palpable
You can slice it with a knife
When willful ignorance
Is a sentence on your life
To our detriment
A happy ending’s not in view
