This track is about taking back the territory of my mind that I’ve lost to doubt and fear. I had a tough couple of weeks mentally and was thinking non-constructive thoughts. This song is me trying to bounce back.

The Takeover

Gonna rhyme whatever the weather.
Me and rap can’t be severed.
Without poetic expression,
I tend to get restless.
It’s how I defend against depression.
Music’s improving every session.
Penmanship’s my obsession,
I like rhyming in succession.

Sometimes, the sun’s shining.
Other times, the weather’s wetter.
My mind survives by writing 
then vocalising with intention.
At times, my mind’s a hostile climate,
but that means I have more to tell you.
Thunder and lightning under certain lighting
prepares and helps me with inventions.

It’s like my pen’s a handheld Tesla
coil. I enjoy toying with letters. 
Brainstorming about my brain’s storm.
Can’t escape when it’s in the shelter.
Only choice is to attempt to 
use the storm to fuel my efforts.
Gotta rhyme ‘cause otherwise 
I won’t have a method to direct them.

Mental state is always changing.
Can’t expect it to stay the same forever. 
Like weather, head doesn’t maintain stasis.
Trying to make it’s a futile endeavour.
I get discouraged when failing,
but inspiration helps me get up.
Every day I don’t cave in’s
training that’s making me better.

When judgement’s clouded by doubt
I tend to fail to remember 
how much that I’ve strengthened 
compared to before the present.
It’s all about my outlook,
it’s all about my perception.
Pain’s innate, must embrace the rain 
and learn to live without umbrellas.

Want the strength to survive hell (hail) ‘cause 
I recognise life’s rarely heaven.
Wanna be able to keep it together 
whether life’s pleasant or unpleasant.
Can’t keep sentiments locked forever 
in noggin’s cellar, gotta share them.
It’d be a shame if my flames never 
saw the light of day before death comes.

Some days it takes a day to make 
a song, on others, brain’s a desert.
In order to make it rain,
I have to lower atmospheric pressure.
That’s when thoughts run more like water
and head’s content is more like a melon.
Of rhymes, I can devise a plethora 
when I let go of my mind’s stressors.

It gets chaotic inside the storm.
However, if I find the centre,
I’m then able to make assessments 
via inspection and reflection.
Whatever my environment throws my way,
I’ll maintain faith and won’t let up.
Written, now delivered a long-winded
way of saying I must stay relentless.
