I used three N163 channels for the "guitar" sound, then ran them through an amp simulator in my DAW, so no, this isn't purely FamiTracker, but I made the song fully in FamiTracker before adding the stereo effects. I hope you enjoy it.

What Lies Below

I absolutely adore the music by The Black Mages. The new and interesting spins that they put on some of Uematsu-san's works over the years are truly spectacular. Some personal favourites being from the FFIII, FFVII and FFVIII games that they do. And, of course, Seymour's final battle theme from Final Fantasy X!

They never actually gave their spin on the battle theme from FFX so I thought that I would give it a try in a (very) vaguely inspired "Black Mages" style but mostly my own style and original ideas in the second half of the track.

In terms of the overall sound, I love what I was able to come up with here. The instruments seem to blend together well and I like some of the off-beat notes coming together to really amp things up and move into a battling flow with that faster slap bass. It actually sounds great when that bass is put into double-time essentially and doesn't completely overwhelm the other instruments which was an added boon.

I know that my transitions between sections were definitely lacking though. It's a little jarring in a couple of sections, making me think that it sounds like two or three songs have been slapped together - more like a medley perhaps but it definitely wasn't intended to be that way. I just wanted to bring together the mood of the original and then move into something more flowing in the second half.
