Derelict

I started messing with this in early November '17 intending to just make something simple and catchy.  In the end, after coming back to it several times, I'm not sure I succeeded in that, as it wound up being pretty rando-ish.

It isn't really confined to any genre feels like a bit of a mashup of stuff I like with a sprinkle of insanity on top for good measure.

This track started probably a few years ago when I picked out the stage clear song from Xexyz (NES) with a few synths.  It sat there for a while and I came back to it here and there but didn't really do much with it until September 2018.  I started to tinker with it quite a bit at the beginnining of October but then Hurricane Michael hit.  I just got back to finalizing it in the last month or so.

So here you go, for your enjoyment, a sort of genre bending 60's psychedelic progressive polka nightmare wave thing.  Artwork is by me as well.

Madness' Maw

This track has its origins around the time I finished Attack of the Killer Beets (Oct 2017).  It sat there as a bit of a bass/synth intro for a while until I decided to flesh it out into something around the beginning of the year.  I used a sample of a dial-up modem connecting for a lot of the squelchy/glitchyness, hence the track title.  I hope you enjoy it.  But, if you don't, that is fine too. ;)

Dialed-In

This started when I was messing around with some softsynth VST's I hadn't used before and landed upon a sound I liked using one called Prodigious Synth.  I laid down a bit of an upward melodic progression with the pianoroll and that became the basis for the song.

Somewhere along the way I threw in some radio clips from the Apollo program and kept tinkering with it the last few weeks until it has become a sort of series of set pieces hinging around the same melodic cues.

Holiday Trip

I started messing with this back in May when I was poking around with some free distortion plugins, which led to the fuzzy overdriven thing.  From there it was pretty much just me and my usual suspects, qsamo and minimogue. 

One exception to that is my use of some crappy one-shot djembe drum samples that I clipped from some old tutorial video years ago for a project for a friend.  I used them on another unreleased song but I think this is the first time they made it into the wild.

At some point it dawned on me how much it resembled the song, Daisy.  That gave me an idea for a vocalist, HAL 9000 circa 2001.  The little backup vocal ahh's are yours truly.

Distorted World View

Been sitting on this for months intending to work on it a touch more before releasing it.   Life kinda got in the way of that for a while, again, unfortunately.  And I've since moved on to other projects once I got back around to making music.  So I decided to just flip the switch on this and call it good enough as is.

Featuring a small bit of vocals from yours truly, a song about encountering people you don't know in a dream and not being able to forget them.

Cosmic Crisis

Jon Rando is just your average random guy on the internet who makes a bit of music and art in his spare time.  Alright, that's enough of this 3rd person weirdness.

I make all this stuff with Jeskola Buzz and maybe some free VST's.  I started messing around with it in the late 90's as a teen and have sort of gotten back into it as a hobby in the last several years.  I also played drums in a garage band for many years and play a bit of guitar/bass as well, though none of that here.

In addition to dabbling with music, I also do a lot of photo manipulation stuff with GIMP as a hobby as well.  Most of the track art is stuff I have altered in some way or created from scratch.

In general, most of these songs are released under CC licenses and I have downloads enabled on most of the tracks.  So you are free to use something you like for your projects if you would like.  Also I may be using old software, but I could dump instrument tracks individually if you're interested in remixing/mastering something.  Let me know either way in a PM.
