It's been long over due but we were finally able to get Carmack one on one. He is definitely one of the most forward thinking artists of the new generation. If you produce then there is a good chance that you know who Carmack is. He has inspired many all over the world and has pretty much created his own genre of sound. How many times have you heard another producer make a beat similar to his and say to yourself, "CARMACK"!?

This guy has been a big part of Soulection's growth and history and it felt good to finally sit down with my bro to talk about his growth and current inspirations. We talked about how his move to L.A. changed his life, how he feels about other producers who create music that sounds like his, his relationship with drugs and why he calls his music drugs, when we can expect the next album, and much more.

Over the years there have been a handful of artists/DJs that I have always wanted to come on the show. We've had Dam Funk, Mr. Choc, Daddy Kev, Hazel, Rhettmatic, Ta-ku, Coleman, Iman Omari, and many others as special guests but i've always wanted to have J. Rocc of the legendary Beat Junkies/Stones Throw crew on the show. Well, our timing finally aligned and he came through the Soulection HQ to drop a set and sit down with me for an interview. He dropped a 60 min set full of future beats, bass, and some other left-field shit. 

After that we sat down and chopped it about so many interesting things from his love for digging for 45's (Gospel Music), his production (that he keeps low key), his DILLA/MADLIB stories, and much more. J. Rocc is an overall tastemaker and one of the best on the decks. If you ever have a chance to see him live please go to a show and see for yourselves.

It's an interesting point in time where Soulection is right now.. we have all the leverage that we need going into 2015 but there is a concern... and that concern is where will the sound direction go in 2015? If you've been to our live shows, you may have noticed a lot of energy and turn up vibes but where is the balance of soul music? This is something that I try to inject and keep in rotation within the radio show. Without soul music there is no Soulection. Can't forget our roots. Your'e gonna hear a lot of classic D'Angelo, Erykah, classics, and overall just good vibes. Someone has to keep the vibe alive.

What a year it's been! This was definitely our year; we put in so much work the past 3 years to set ourselves up for the future and  we wouldn't be here without you. There were so many great releases, tracks, new artists who emerged that it is literally impossible to cover everyone. I went through all of my playlists from this whole year by each month and compiled 220+ tracks. But I was only able to get through 103 tracks. Don't be mad if you were an artist who  had a lot of play on our radio show this year and didn't make the cut... it has nothing to do with it not being good enough.. it was more about just the flow and vibe of this session. 

This isn't your typical best of session where we go in order by EP,s albums, artists.. it's just a freestyle.. no favoritism.. everyone is winning; SOULECTION STYLE! 

We love ya'll and look forward to another great year ahead of us. Happy 2015, be safe out there and we'll catch you Saturday, January 10th with Show #200!! We're taking this weekend off. God bless.

Timing is everything. My man GoldLink and I have been trying to find the right setting to sit down and chop it up. After months of bouncing back and forth we finally connected and made this session happen. GoldLink to me is one of my favorite emerging artists. I don't really need to give him an introduction. But just know that he has Rick Rubin on his side, Soulection on his side, and every A&R/label head on him. It's refreshing to connect with an artist who gets our sound and is at the forefront of this future beat sound/forward thinking community. GoldLink said that he and Soulection will run music in 2015 and beyond. Hear why.
