"ebuting on Or Two Strangers' March 2019 compilation "Strangers," "Telephone Days" stood out as a progressive house gem from Argentinean duo Artfaq. Now receiving the Yin and Yang remix treatment, reworkings come from Italian and Indian artists.

Gai Barone needs little introduction to anyone cognizant of the underground dance scene over the past decade. A consummate craftsman, the Italian has crossed genres with style, fluidity and panache, creating a musical blend that captures the hearts and minds of an ever-growing support base. Over 500 production credits for a raft of high-profile labels, such as Black Hole, JOOF and Armada, tell the Gai Barone success story.

Yang is honored to welcome back Gai for a third remix on the label. His devastating rework of "Telephone Days" captures and builds on themes of the original by combining heavy trademark kick and shimmering percussive intent with a glorious swathe of melodic elements. Acid-tinged phrases wax and wane across the near nine-minute offering, while textured pads flow across the sumptuous breakdown. The result is an impressive affair that showcases Gai Barone's unrivaled craftsmanship.

GNTN and Artche, hailing from Germany and the UK respectively, have both been bubbling up in the world of European techno for the past few years, collaborating most recently for an EP on Einmusika and individually releasing on labels like Stil Vor Talent, Suara, and Terminal M. Their debut EP for Yoshitoshi, Plastic Paranoia, brings together the dark, melodic sounds they are known for and incorporates elements of techno and deep house to create a swirling mesh of exhilarating sonic textures. The title track shines with its gorgeous vocal, proving that vocals and techno are not mutually exclusive. It possesses an absolutely stunning breakdown that is sure to have crowds singing along, and builds into a sweltering groove to keep feet moving. Expressions is all instrumental, interweaving a series of gorgeous synth melodies and pads that coalesce in an atmospheric and elaborate soundscape. It's a master class in maximalist production, each element shining through the multitude of layers happening at any given time. To finish things off, Spaniard Aaryon, who is no stranger to the label, gives us a deep, leftfield remix that showcases his propensity for abstract sound design. It's a subtle take on the original, but Aaryon gives it enough flavor that it feels fresh and unique. Altogether, the package displays a variety of stellar music that feels perfectly at home in the Yoshitoshi catalogue.

Hallsax opened his production account with a debut EP in January on Scandium Records that immediately proved he has a musical techno sound that makes use of the piano playing skills he’s been honing since his youth. Add some bass power to that melodic magic and you have a sound that is already finding favour with those in the know. This new EP is a product of nostalgia as it’s dedicated to Hallsax’s friend who moved to Cherbourg from their home town of Toulouse where they grew up together. ‘Cherbourg’ EP follows Idem Nevi’s ‘Athena’ EP that picked up support from some of techno’s biggest names including the likes of Charlotte de Witte, Sasha, Marcel Fenger, Boxia and many more. First up is 'Cherbourg' which will immediately get you in a trance with its majestic arps and glistening pads all lighting up a progressive techno groove. As waves of joy wash over the dance floor it is sure to make for a highly energised atmosphere. Then comes 'Road', featuring chords racing up and down the scales, glistening keys ringing out above it all and beastly hi hats bringing plenty of drive and dynamism to proceedings. Last of all is the epic 'Openmind', a more zoned out tune to get hands in the air in the middle of a set during a big emotional highpoint.

The A side ‘Hypnos’ is literally a track the will put its listeners in deep hypnotic state. An Infectious riff is repeated throughout the whole track as played by shiny diamond pluck synths, giving you a complete 8D experience of sound design. The powerful bass line keeps the energy high throughout all of the sensorial sensations brought to you by ‘Hypnos’ while atmospheric ambient melodies and harmonic pads bring the necessary balance to this timeless track.  

The B side ‘Python’ is a track reminiscent of the more old school progressive sounds of the last decade.  With an effective bass line coupled with pluck chords, bright sparkling arpeggios and an impeccable percussion work, Python shines, especially because of the conjunctions of its simpler elements that work together in perfect harmony.
