For the 3rd edition of the annual compilation, the brazilian label put together artists from all over the globe, choosing carefully high quality tracks which are able to tell a complete history with a beginning, middle and an end.
From Organic to Progressive House arriving to Melodic Techno, this compilation englobes all genres which have been delivered by the Brazilian label, since its start.

| From the Middle East to Central America and Russia, a trio of artists blend their talents. Out of the darkness and into the light, Golan Zocher, Gux Jimenez and Mango build a stratified sonic masterpiece from “Only a Shadow”. Subtle organic layers amble through a forest of percussive saplings that sit beneath a towering beat and subterranean groove. Emerging in the dappled moonlit shadows, evocative motifs create an eerie atmosphere before a bassline force springs from the undergrowth and into the open, prowling beneath luscious melody.

Harnessing familiar energies from the darkness, Dowden hypnotises with a new poise and grace. “Only a Shadow” forms in the twilight as white noise crashes in pulsating waves. A mesmerising bassline hits the Toronto streets where it forges a path through pinpricks of melodic light and a seething, rolling rhythmic groove. A pioneering sonic architecture is forged from exquisite St Petersburg and Sao Paulo landscapes. Bassline and synth lines fire off each other in playful interaction and melodic beauty swirls in coruscating patterns of delay and intrigue. “Only a Shadow” is transformed into an iridescent array of sonic colour and uplifting brio by K Loveski & Gorkiz. |

Ending the year on a high having witnessed a plethora of musical highlights, Meanwhile has been a shining beacon for progressive house throughout 2021. Now, Australian, Mike Rish, becomes the latest debutant to showcase his talents on GMJ & Matter’s blossoming imprint with the 3-track “Beyond” EP.
 
From his home on Australia’s south-eastern coast, Mike Rish has witnessed an impressive rise to notoriety, courtesy of a clutch of high-profile releases on an exclusive set of blue-chip labels. Not wanting to flood the progressive house scene with a swathe of formulaic dance music, the Melbourne resident’s “selective output” is based on a carefully thought-out commitment to “keep people engaged, but also wanting more”. Thus, Rish’s work for the likes of Colorize, Serendeep and Juicebox Music, has seen the Australian carve out a sizeable niche for himself, further enhanced by March 2021’s 12-track “Interlinked” album for UGENIUS Music.

Opening his Meanwhile account with the “Beyond” title track, a chunky beat and cavernous bass groove sit tightly against off-beat hats and snare. Filtering into sonic range, an elegant arpeggio provides glorious melodic interplay as white-noise washes and meandering pads pulse gently across the near 10-minute piece. Full of spine-tingling atmosphere, additional melodic phrasing is introduced at the breakdown before extending into the third movement with ease, combined with a raft of effects and masterful touches.
 
A bouncing bass groove immediately finds “Mindgame” oozing with hypnotic force and low-end menace. Sat perfectly in between deep kick and ticking hats, a flowing melodic line ripples across proceedings as it rises and falls with filtered dynamism. Twisted vocal cuts and acetylene-edged synth effects pitch with glissando range adding to the aural collage in a track full of dark and mesmerising beauty.

 Closing the EP, “Here For You” is characterised by an intricate percussive arrangement that introduces a subtle melodic backdrop. Effects and textured pads span the stereo stage in modulated glory as a pulsating lead melody enters the fray in the second movement. Building steadily before revealing itself fully in the stripped back breakdown, the second half blossoms in commanding fashion with a pulsating confluence of rhythm and melody. The result is a track that illustrates Mike Rish’s unique talent and technique.
 
A musical triptych full of innovation and sonic narrative, Mike Rish has gone above and “Beyond” with a glittering display of production prowess.

Eat My Hat Music opens the new year with a new single from label boss Ziger. The Greek artist is coming off a successful 2021, which was highlighted by a trio of well received collaborations and timely solo releases, none more notable than ‘Sky Is The Limit’ which put a resounding stamp on the year with a late December release. Now, carrying that momentum forward, Ziger unveils his latest studio production ‘Different’, alongside remixes from Mind Conspiracy and Dark Soul Project. 
Following on from the aforementioned ‘Sky Is The Limit’, Ziger continues to amaze with the electric sounds of ‘Different’. Following a swing heavy intro, the Greek artist unleashes muscular beats, pulsating rhythms and quirky arps as the first act begins to take shape. Dark and emotive, a series of astral motifs and percussive flurries provide a segue into a near two-minute interlude. Wavy arps and balmy atmospheres bring forth a healthy dose of cosmic colour, before a vivid build unleashes a finale of indistinct vocals and astral synth phrasing. 
Returning to Eat My Hat and providing the first interpretation of ‘Different’ is label artist Mind Conspiracy. Since making his Eat My Hat debut in March of 2020, the Greek artist has quickly called the label his primary home, notching eight discography credits across the next two years. On the strength of a collaboration with Ziger, 2021 proved to be a breakout year for Mind Conspiracy, one where he continued to blur the lines between progressive house and melodic house & techno with ease, while never losing sight of a peak time dancefloor. Now, as the new year begins Mind Conspiracy continues to build his portfolio with a powerful rendition of ‘Different’. Playing off the strength of the original, arpeggiated fragments dance against a backdrop of charged beats and blustery atmospheres. Warm chord changes and panning vocals bring further emotional depth leading in the main break, where Mind Conspiracy’s keen dance floor sense shines once again. As muted beats get washed away, pristine arps take centrestage, with their irresistible luster transferring energy into a deep and impassioned finale.
The release concludes Dark Soul Project making his label debut and providing the second and final interpretation of ‘Different’. The Argentinean artist and We Are The Underground label boss has been a known figure in the progressive music scene for over a decade. A discography of nearly one hundred and fifty credits is highlighted by projects for Beat Boutique, Balkan Connection, Nature Rec and Stripped Recordings. Now adding Eat My Hat to his resume, Dark Soul Project makes his label debut with a groovy take on ‘Different’. Aptly coined ‘Ethereal Mix’, the Argentine constructs a framework with a greater sense of space for a bevy of fluttery fragments to work their magic. Tense and cinematic in equal measure, the main break brings further drama and perfectly sets the stage for an emotive, vocal-led finale. Sitting as a great complement to the previous two versions, it rounds out another must have release for Ziger’s Eat My Hat to begin the new year.

Following on from ‘The Light’, Ziger and Mind Conspiracy return to Eat My Hat with ‘Metamorphosis’. Released last month, ‘The Light’ saw the frequent studio partners work more magic together, creating a colourful, progressive minded composition which ranks as one of their most well received to date. Now embarking on their fourth joint production the Greek duo unveil their latest studio creation entitled ‘Metamorphosis’, alongside a remix from Alexander Savvidi.

Beginning with the pulsating grooves of the Original Mix, Ziger and Mind Conspiracy marry fluid rhythms with heady effects and astral synth phrasing. Driving percussive arrangements and timely melodic accents add nicely to its mediative pulse, before a wave of ethereal vocal gates brings a new dimension to the track. Tense and mind bending in equal measure, the main break elevates mood further through wavy modulation and haunting effects, eventually giving way to a timely build, striking crescendo and exhilarating finale.

Making his label debut and providing the lone interpretation of ‘Metamorphosis’ is Alexander Savvidi. Hailing from the South of Russia, Alexander Savvidi is a composer and live-performer who entered the electronic music underground after a decade of work in the film industry. His HOROSHO imprint has served as the primary home for his powerful rhythms and atmospheric melodies, while international tastemakers such as Eelke Kleijn and Newmand have already supported his wor. Now adding Eat My Hat to his resume, Alexander debuts on the label with a stunning rendition of ‘Metamorphosis’. Backed by a tough, techno inspired groove, Alexander’s buzzing basslines and deliberate percussion quickly appease the senses. The main themes translate well with the primary synth lead and time-stretched vocals adding their own otherworldly flair. Quirky acid lines further saturate your senses, panning across the stereo field, while playing off emotive chord changes below, and ultimately making this breakless journey incredibly satisfying. A unique and inspired remix from Alexander Savvidi, which rounds out another memorable collaboration from Ziger and Mind Conspiracy. Don’t miss it.
