My first post-lockdown 'one-weekend' song...

The lyric is based on my experience of visiting the Fushimi Inari shrine in Kyoto in 2018, a magical day that I will never forget.

Some tunes you have to work at.  This one came quickly, but I still wanted it to steep a little, especially the middle section.  The title came quickly as well as I thought about my son-in-law's work as a truck driver.  When he is at home, he's home as a loving and devoted family man.  On the road, however, it's all "white lines and deadlines". BIRDS OF PARADISE - SHORT TALES PART III

In this third edition of short musical tales for three acoustic guitars, exploring furthermore on the possibilities of using multiple acoustic guitars , I am again letting the inspiration take me, free from fixed form or styles, but of course infused with music that has lived with me my entire life. You'll hear Latin, Jazz, Flamenco, Fusion, Blues, Classical and more.  Shout out to the free thinkers and the open minded...

I regularly get questions about my acoustic guitar technique, so I will elaborate here: In this track I play everything in fingerpicking style, plucking the strings with my right hand using my nails and part of the fleshy fingertips to create the sounds. I mute the stings sometimes by placing my handpalm on the strings and plucking with the fingertips, or I will rest my right hand pinky on the strings and play with thumb, index and second finger. No plectrum here, although I love that sound and way of playing too, as you will hear in other pieces of mine.

Faith and social issues can be contentious and polarising. But for me, both combined is a marriage made in heaven. As a young songwriter I wanted to explore that, and this was one of those attempts. It is based on the ‘I Am’ sayings, and I thank you for listening.

From HinT - "This song had a very long gestation period. For a while we weren't sure that it would ever see the light of day. It first appeared as a live video on our Facebook page, which still remains in our video section as a demo. After a lot of procrastinating, we sent some stems to Russ, who in turn sent those pieces to D. D. Danahy. And that's when everything turned around. D. D. Danahy added synth and bass. But most importantly, he breathed new life into the song, made it a cohesive thing, and gave it a brand new heading that inspired us all, and helped us see it through to its fruition. Reinvigorated by D3's contributions, we decided to add lyrics and vocals. Russ approached bitzone on our behalf to add drums, which was an altogether excellent choice. Russ then worked tirelessly and meticulously to mix and blend every piece together into the final product. And now, finally, we're here. With our deepest thanks and gratitude to everyone involved."

20/20 By Honor in Treason Feat. D. D. Danahy & bitzone

After our first collaboration - https://soundcloud.com/markjbennett/set-me-down-that-road-rplanesmjbennett - Rodolfo offered me a challenge in the form of a decades old song (in a folk/pop style, complete with tape hiss) that he was updating with a platform that is closer to R&B and my task was to come up with a new lyric. This original break-up song had an air of a happy ending to it, though initially I chose to write something less optimistic… however it became clear that with the new arrangement my words had to match the original mood. The added bonus to this is that I now have another break-up song lyric available for the future.
Singing a song that had already existed in another form meant that I had to find a very personal interpretation in order to make it truly mine. A huge thanks to Rodolfo for sharing his inspiring music with me.

I am not a musician but music plays a very important role in my creative life! I am an artist/designer and music is my companion and my muse in the long hours I spend working in my studio!
