Le Janggu

한국 전승 휘모리장단을 만나 재탄생한 Liszt의 La Campanella.

Le Janggu, composed by Joon-Hwi Kim, is a fusion work of the West’s classical music with the East’s traditional percussion music. A theme of Paganini is reinterpreted based on the Hwimori rhythm of Janggu (a traditional Korean drum). 
The experimental idea of blending the two distinct musical elements traces back to the year 2012, albeit its actual implementation came in 2016.
The piece also bears a significance in my personal "cognitive universe." Created with the air of potent inspirational powers, it gave manifolds of creative and joyful interactions in my life, both artistic and intellectual. (And it somehow is associated with the "tensor music" (https://soundcloud.com/joonhwi-kim/listen-to-tensors)!) The era will be remembered as a delightful and pleasant moment ever after.
