Joony's tasteful and soulful pop-rap - a sound he first crafted in his bedroom as a teenager in Silver Spring, Maryland - found an early audience on SoundCloud. But on 2022's Pretty in Black, that style is primed for a wider audience. Last year he also made his debut on the Billboard Hot 100, guesting on Brent Faiyaz's "FYTB." Joony's bite-sized songs are striking in their simplicity, as he rap-sings downcast hooks over beats built from simple parts: a warbled acoustic guitar here, an underwater Latin beat or ambient synth there.
