This precision balance of stark sonic signature, technical ideology and nurturing new ideas along with talent, has led to SCI+TEC’s perpetual momentum into every house and techno DJ’s playlists for the past 10 years. Be it the label’s penchant for deep, undulating subby grooves, or its passion for warehouse-razing thunder-powered techno, the SCI+TEC sound covers every corner of the floor and every chapter of the night; as proven by the label’s many world tours under the guidance of lead curator and techno innovator, Dubfire. And proved once again by this fittingly stacked anniversary album.

10 brand new, unreleased tracks to celebrate 10 years from 10 of the label’s most exciting artists, every track brings home the SCI+TEC message: The breath-taking atmospheres of Alex Mine’s album scene-setter ‘In The Name Of What’; Wigbert’s detailed drum momentum on ‘Multiclock’; the soulful allure of Carlo Lio’s ‘Because Of You’; the hazy slow-burning groove smoulders of Hector & David Gtronic’s ‘Saki’; Raul Facio’s subversion of Dubfire’s early rising turbine tension on ‘Malo’; the eerie juxtaposition of acidic icicles and groaning elephantine bass on Rosper’s ‘Revenge’; Shaded’s alien up-pitched funk on ‘Crayzy’; the soaring synths and cosmic undertones of Johnny Trika’s ‘One Rainy Wish’ and the pulverising kickdrum and funk of Mr Bizz’s ‘Blue Velvet… Not to mention the deep, hypnotic swing of Dubfire’s restrained and dubbed-out groove ‘Swerve’.

Each track an odyssey in itself, they complement and tessellate to reveal a much wider vision of the past, present and, most importantly, the future. Consistently rooted but constantly rising; this album isn’t celebrating the last 10 years of SCI+TEC… It’s setting us up for the next 10 years to come.

Mr. Bizz - Blue Velvet

Joran van Pol is back on Minus with Edge, a fantastic four track EP that is his first on the label since 2013. In the years since, the Amsterdam based artist has set up his own FADE label and has continued to evolve his cinematic techno sound. 

Previously, van Pol has also released on labels like Rejected, SCI+TEC and Ideal Audio, and has the support of all the big techno players who often reach for his tunes in their sets. As a DJ he is just as in demand, with headline slots everywhere from Space Ibiza to Time Warp all behind him. Having recently set up a new studio, he is still coming on strong with fresh inspiration and ever more essential grooves. 

‘Illos’ opens things with seven spooky minutes of icy techno. Rolling rubbery drums pump away below, and the details up top make for an evocative soundscape with distant industrial sounds, groaning bass and razor sharp hi hats all filling your mind with imagery. Next comes title track ‘Edge’, another brilliant sonic landscape with tense chords repeating over ticking percussion. It’s a track that builds tension throughout, and keeps you looking over your shoulder into the eerie blackness. 





The perfectly high pressure ‘Return’ is one that locks you in and never lets up, with warped synths snaking above traintrack like drums and hits. A dark, rumbling bassline and the sounds of pistons releasing air all add to the intensity of this brain-melting bit of futuristic techno. 

Last but not least, ‘Frostbite’ is then the most spacious and spooky offering of the lot. It has freaky alien sound designs scattered around the track with supple kicks driving the whole thing forwards. It’s an absorbing cut that hurries along and takes you for a thrilling ride. 

These are four more inventive techno tracks from one of the contemporary scene’s brightest stars.

Frostbite

Pig & Dan’s trend setting label Elevate signs contemporary talent Joran Van Pol for its next EP.

After letting Dubfire and Richie Hawtin fight it out to sign his first release, Joran van Pol has climbed to the very top of the techno tree. The Dutchman is now a mainstay at vital festivals from Awakenings to Tomorrowland and runs his own FADE label. His cinematic Techno sound is perfect for big rooms, and that is played out across three
brilliant new tracks on Elevate.

First up is ‘Outsider’, a brilliantly taught and tense roller with piston like drums and hits that are made for marching to. Rumbling bass speaks of a dystopian wasteland and searching synths survey the horizon in menacing fashion as the tension continues to build.
Also keeping you locked throughout is ‘Captured’, an eerie track with hypnotic drums and unsettling sirens that rise up and down and make for haunting listening. It’s a real mind melter.

Last but not least, the masterful ’Remember’ is built on rubbery, ticking and minimal drums with skittish claps and icy hi-hats all peeling off the groove as dark vocals dip in and out. It’s economical but efficient techno that is hugely evocative.

Once again here van Pol asserts himself as one of techno’s key players with a trio of terrific tracks.

Techno DJ/producer Joran van Pol has a somewhat special story. His debut release ‘Untitled 2’ was signed to Richie Hawtin’s Minus, followed by Joran's seminal release 'Faded'. Where do you go from there? Well, with the ‘Implicit E.P.’ on Dubfire’s Sci+Tec, several releases on Joris Voorn’s label Rejected, a remix and full E.P. ’Immediate E.P.’ on Matador’s Rukus and a collab with Maksim
Dark ‘Thrill’ on Senso Sounds. ‘Derelict’ on Pan-Pot's Second State was added in 2020.

Meanwhile, Joran kept working tirelessly to hone his craft in the studio. Inspired by the current wave of bare and heavy techno, he managed to create a new iteration of his sound. His stark and heavy, yet minimalistic, techno marks the resurgence of Joran van Pol.

Perhaps even more so than his production efforts, Joran has built quite the reputation when it comes to his DJ-sets. Starting his career at the infamous underground club Studio 80 in Amsterdam, he quickly transitioned to big venues and events like Awakenings, Dockyard, Tomorrowland, Fuse Brussels, Welcome To The Future, Loveland and Timewarp.
