At Born on Road we love releasing music that links up different members of our expansive family, and ‘Born Inna Babylon’ is no different. Featuring live music legend Dr Meaker, long time family member Gold Dubs and the ever-wicked lyricism of Jman, ‘Born Inna Babylon’ is set to be one of the drum and bass anthems of 2021.

Maybe it’s the monstrous bass riffs Dr Meaker has built a reputation for, or the smooth flows of Jman whose lyrics have taken on a whole new level of meaning since the recent events in Bristol protesting against societal corruption. Either way, ‘Born Inna Babylon’ is sure to blaze up the dance when it (hopefully) returns in June.

This isn’t the first time Dr Meaker and Gold Dubs have linked up on a stonker either. You may remember their combo flourishing on ‘Chronic’, which became the most streamed track from Gold Dubs’ debut album Champagne & Asparagus. 

As an acclaimed artist who has performed epic live shows at the likes of Boomtown and Glastonbury, combined with a long-standing history of releases with labels including Souped Up, V Recordings, Chronic and Circus, Dr Meaker is a name Born on Road are always gassed to feature, and a link up with one of the original members of our crew in Gold Dubs makes it that bit sweeter.

We don’t know how this summer is going to pan out, but what we do know is ‘Born Inna Babylon’ is going to be tearing up speakers no matter what.

Darkzy (@darkzyuk) is the alias of Elliot Fisher, an emerging producer and DJ from Nottingham. While he makes music across the bass spectrum, alongside his peers Skepsis and Notion his affinities almost certainly lie closest with bassline. With a recently rekindled interest in the party-ready sound, in our eyes Darkzy is becoming one of the frontrunners of the UK’s urban scene.

His production has been getting a lot of heat of late, too with My Nu Leng rinsing a particularly on point bootleg made by the Nottingham producer’s hand. The drop is more than likely familiar for many of you too – looking back to 2009, Darkzy adds some fierce heat to offer a refreshed take on Skream’s memorable remix of La Roux’s In for the Kill in something of a homage to the seminal track.

With his EC1 debut just around the corner on 28th April and more FABRICLIVE dates slated for the near future, we’re now very happy to offer this up as an exclusive stream to listen to at will.

Should A Know (Kleu Remix)

We don’t need to bang on too much about how successful the original mixes of ‘Take Me Away’ and ‘New Dawn’ were for Exile and Mark XTC. They were obviously very pleased with the reaction though, so much so that the talented duo went back into the studio and crafted VIP mixes plus a brand new tune called ‘Pull Up’. What a treat!

The EP title track ‘Pull Up’ was doing the rounds in almost every DJs set on the planet just before the dreaded month of March. It’s tight yet simplistic style combines effortlessly with filtered out Amen breaks and single note bass stabs that do a great job of shaking whatever is in a 10 mile radius.

Without chucking the anthem status around too much, the original ‘Take Me Away’ was no doubt one of the big tunes of 2019 and the VIP simply adds a ton of variety to the mix whilst maintaining the character of the original. You’re going to love the pitch shifted vocals on this.

‘New Dawn’ also gets a cheeky update, retaining a lot of original elements including the singalong bass riff. One thing is for sure though, this VIP provides a ton of attitude and darkness. A tune that can be taken one of two ways really. You’re either going to look to the floor and shuffle your socks off or stand at the back, disappearing into the shadows. Whatever you choose, this one’s a stinker..
