Out The Window” is our third single off the 2012 Bid Adieu debut album, “We Died In 2012: This Is Hell.” The song is written about the awkward loneliness one experiences while being stranded at a party on your own. The underlying theme of the song speaks to the difficulties of trying to navigate inner anxieties and seeking escape. The message is reiterated in several moments, including the intro by featured vocalist Jill Ryan of Great Time, and the vocoder chorus by Gray Hall of 2012 Bid Adieu. “Out The Window” aims to intrigue and take risks, blending core elements of Trap, R & B, and Pop to make its own wave of genreless music. This production explores moments of both maximalism and minimalism while still hinting towards the ever-present core of R & B. We like to think of the song as a dreamy panorama of smooth synths that’s accessible enough to attract mainstream listeners, while also catering to those with an ear for experimentalism.

As everyone adjusts to new realities amid the coronavirus pandemic, 2012 Bid Adieu’s single off their upcoming EP, reCAPTCHA, suggests that they’ve spent enough time isolating and are ready to be heard. “Sanity” finds the lead vocalist, Jordan Clark, unwound, reveling in the confusion of 2020, delivering a vocal performance that lands nourishingly between the realms of rap, pop, and R&B. Produced by 2012 Bid Adieu’s Gray Hall, Clark delivers a focused rap verse with an almost chant-like cadence that glides across a clean and spacious synth line that includes an undercurrent of complex percussion and thumping bass that prevents the beat from getting too repetitive. The attentiveness to detail is a trademark of 2012 Bid Adieu, and it can be found in the outro of Sanity where they fill the space with carefully selected synths, sounds, and transitions to deliver an emotional saxophone outro. The result of the song reveals quarantine has left Clark brimming with thoughts on blackness, escapism, violence, and history. As the first single off of reCAPTCHA, more than anything else, 2012’s creates even more anticipation for what is to come. If this track is representative of 2012 Bid Adieu’s direction following their debut album, then this suggests that the band is experimenting with a style not found anywhere else in the industry, and a vulnerability that keeps us wanting more.
