The Air

Sunset At Machir Bay - for Marcus and Em

When my Father became poorly with a rare bone marrow cancer, and very nearly died some years ago, he heard a tune in his head he couldn't identify. It haunted him day and night. It finally came to him one day and he miraculously recorded it on the piano.  I shared it, asking for help, and a Salisbury Cathedral chorister named it as Tallis: Glory To Thee. Dad was thrilled and relieved to have found it! As Dad approached his final weeks, he asked me to record it for his funeral.  This is our arrangement, sung by his grandchildren Amber, Mimi, my brothers Ian and Pete and I, Hugo Allen and the Knoydart Singers.  It was recorded, mixed and mastered by Chris Pepper at Saltwell Studios.  I am deeply grateful to them all.

WISE UP

This piece was composed especially for my friend Bels' son Edward, who tragically died in an accident in 2021.  The Oak is represented by the piano, and the trumpet represents the boy, climbing his favourite tree, and leaving an indelible memory in its branches.

So many acts of kindness and hope happen every day, and so often go unseen.  This is a track that honours those who show up for others, who care for relatives and friends, and who create light in a dark world.
