Montreal duo HOKI return to The Young Proprietor imprint with quite possibly their most stirring work to date. The new three track ‘Oliver’s Hill’ EP showcases a cinematic indie electronic sound that blends lush melodies and beautifully textured atmospheres with gripping vocal work. 
 
’Lockscreens & Icons’ is a sublime example of the duo’s ability to thread the line between the dark and the light. The track offers up a melancholic yet ever hopeful listening experience.

‘Mellim’ is a similarly delicate cut, layering entrancing keys on a slow-rolling drum ensemble. It is elevated by a captivating vocal performance that leaves a longing feeling.

Closing out the EP is an ambient mix of ’Lockscreens & Icons’. Stripping the track back, HOKI present its stunning, emotive core in its most raw form.

With this Full Moon Prayer I want to manifest the intention of cosmic healing at the deepest level possible. Almost two years long I collected songs, tried different ways of mixing and spent time in silence too but finally I am happy to share the second >>La Oriación<< 

It's no coincidence that the second prayer is exactly ready before the september full moon. Because of the proximity to the autumn equinox, exceptionally thin curtains open the doors to the other world. It's the time, when nature supports us with magical mushrooms to understand this world and remember our own nature. With the first edition I received a lot of beautiful messages that the sound journey was a perfect guide for psychedelic adventures. As I feel I have to go more into the direction of sound healing combined with natures medicines, my focus now was to create a healing and powerful soundtrack for these times.

What a gift to play shortly after sunrise on one of the most incredible sound stages at Burning Man. The mix that came together here was partly made up of some of my favorite moments from 2021-2022.

Cobahn (@cobahn) is a Korean DJ, and started her musical journey as part of Seoul’s deep spiritual techno scene. She currently resides in Amsterdam, where she continues to explore and expand her musical horizons. Her music is influenced by Oriental philosophies and awe-inspiring mother nature, and combines deep and experimental styles, which she blends into an authentic soundscape. I am super excited to present the next @deepmindmusic_ mix, a special edition crafted by Australia's @pjenne. A DJ with an intuitive ear, Pjenné's mixes have always made a deep impression on me, through her thoughtful track selection, immersive world-building and clear narrative arcs – and her mix for Deep Mind Music is no different 🤍

I experienced this mix as one fluid motion: through the course of an hour we billow outwards, and drift inwards, in pulsating undulations. As the rolling waves of circular rhythms, dub techno and fluttering wisps floated through me, I felt as if I had become one with a towering cumulonimbus, expanding and contracting as I drifted across a pristine sky ☁️🦋💠

Pjenné has managed to strike a subtle balance between quiet softness and infinite depth in this beautiful and evocative journey, taking us deep into the beyond. The mix ends with an ascension to a bright and delicate twinkling, like a sparkling sunset on the sea, and we're left feeling warm, pensive and peaceful 🔆🌥️🕊️

Some words from Pjenné about the mix: 

I was inspired by a sound I used to be particularly into during my formative years – I remember buying the Deepchord Silent World double LP at Spacehall in Berlin during my first overseas trip. It was long, long before I was a DJ, and I was too scared to play any records in-store, as I didn't really know how turntables worked, and had no idea how record stores functioned. Although I bagged that winner of a record (which I still own and play today a decade later) I also remember accidentally buying some sampling records that I had absolutely no use for... Can't say it was the most inviting place back then...

Anyway, although the mix was inspired by that sound, it ended up completely different during the process of putting it together. Of course, I had to weave in some form of uplifting resolve by the end.

Despite being pretty experienced, successful solo artists, in 2019 Jule Grasz and Hans Schultz decided to create a duet Grasz & Schultz. Each musician has an independent style: Jule is good at creating floating, airy sounds, and Hans adds some groove and energy. As a result, listeners enjoy heart-catching, unique, deep sound, and their new release Thurayya is no exception.

The album is named after a star cluster the Pleiades, called Thurayya in ancient times. These are 7 stars, situated pretty close to Earth, and the tracks on the album resemble each of them. While listening, you start feeling the magic energy of Astro bodies - just let the music go deep in your conscience. Musicians describe the genre as downbeat chillout, although they tried not to confine themselves to any convention, experiment, and trust their intuition. And, of course, amazing work with a synthesizer as the major instrument makes it sound really voluminous and diverse.

Mitka is a sound engineer and musician from Ekaterinburg, who mainly works in the film industry. We’ve contacted him after listening couple of his tracks on the web, his music amazed us, but we didn’t knew anything about Mitka himself. He doesn’t play live shows, doesn’t post on social media and in general it feels like he has an ascetic lifestyle.

For “Sound2” album Mitka has been recording drums in the forest, because “acoustic there is better than at home” and he didn’t had money for a studio. He made a guitar by himself because regular fret position is not for him, many of his compositions are played in quarter tone. The titles of the songs on the album are just Mitka’s notes, for understanding harmonies and tunings. 

“Sound2” gives you the mystical and cinematic feeling, but at the same time sounds warm and familiar. While listenin this album you can imagine your walk through the green forest covered with fog. You might not know the way out, or how did you get there, but your mind can stay quiet and calm, because Mitka will be your guide.
