this is a blend of alternative/experimental hip hop that, on any given song, blends together plenty of elements into hip hop.  also, I tried as mich as possible to keep more of a rhythm based around hip hop style drumming rather than depending on heavy synthesized beats.  I love those in lots of music but for this undertaking I wanted to maintain a balance and not have those heavy beats overpowering everything else and drowning other elements out.  I probably scaled back too much because I wanted to have those beats still mixed. Those beats are mixed into some songs lightly but I feel like I got it more figured out working on my second album, so I look forward to when I share that.  I really admire bands that can keep a base in hip hop but add all sorts of other cool elements that actually add to the music and aren't there just so they can be like 'hey, there was a guitar line here or a trumpet line there' because it seems cool. I really wanted to balance many different elements together without it all getting too diluted.
