Joseph Bell unveils ‘Stories In My Mind’, the latest single from his forthcoming project which will be released in Summer 2025. The track delves into the creative process, reflecting on the artistic tendency to internalise negative emotions rather than expressing them openly.

Blending punchy drum machine loops, ethereal guitars, and shimmering ‘80s-inspired synths, ‘Stories In My Mind’ channels the energy of indie-electronic icons like LCD Soundsystem and Hot Chip. The song features collaboration with rising vocalist MISSMARIE (aka Elba Rose) and co-production from The Honeymooners Club.

"The song came from a session and conversation with my friend Malik Hilliman (The Honeymooners Club) about the danger of immortalising negative thoughts and emotions in songs, and how creating songs out of negative moments can sometimes make those moments and emotions more significant than they originally were. After playing the song to MISSMARIE in a later session, she agreed to be a part of the song too - I love what her verse and vocal tone add to the track, and the world that we were able to create with our three visions combining together.”

   I have been writing songs since I was about 10 years old, maybe even a bit longer as I can recall being younger than that and strumming a toy guitar and singing some sort of melody. I can play the keys a little bit and that’s where I write my songs at the keyboard, because I don’t have a band behind me, at the moment songs are recorded using keyboard presets as backing music with me singing over into my iPad. 
  I’m in the process of changing my setup and will soon start using a laptop and a keyboard to make hopefully a more unique sound, at least I hope more professional.

Joseph Bell’s dreamy alt-pop is as much inspired by the genre-bending sounds of modern songwriters such as Dominic Fike, Lorde and James Blake as it is by the diet of noughties guitars and hip-hop tinged pop he grew up on. Growing up in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, Joseph was playing pub open mic nights by age thirteen and producing his own music by eighteen, before moving to London soon after.

Joseph’s first EP ‘Dancing Days’ was released in 2020 and quickly caught the ears of BBC Introducing, with BBC Shropshire’s Michaela Wylde labelling the EP ‘a musical bubble-bath for the soul’. His song ‘Overload’ was later played on Scott Mills’ BBC Radio 1 show. Since then, Joseph has gone on to play at iconic London venues such as Ronnie Scott’s and the Troubadour, building up a loyal audience both live and online. His second EP ‘Hits’ showcased a darker alt-pop sound, with themes of identity and growing up in the social media age. 

Joseph has continued to build momentum, recording a live session for BBC Introducing which was released on iPlayer in 2024, whilst being made one of the first ‘Creatives in Residence’ to serve at City University’s new School of Communication and Creativity. The first two singles from his next project - ‘Better With You’ and ‘When You Get High’ - build on his sound, blending ethereal, dream-pop like production with washed out guitar hooks and soaring vocals. The end of 2024 saw Joseph sell out his first headline show at cult London venue the Hope and Anchor in a matter of days. As he looks toward 2025, Joseph Bell is ready to hit the ground running.
