Winter Suite Brass Quintet

Scored for violin piano and two percussion, the “Cosmopolitan” Gigue is an exercise in using the elements of a Baroque gigue in a 21st Century modal setting. It is “cosmopolitan” because it draws from both the French and Italian gigue styles. Both styles share the characteristics of compound duple meter (6/8 or 12/8); binary form (with each section repeated) ; a lively tempo; and characteristic rhythms.

An earlier version of this piece was commissioned as a ballet piece for the  International Water Technologies Convention with choreography by Charlotte Hart.

Suite For A Short Time

Rhythmic, intense trio for violin, horn and piano. Moderately difficult, with a duration of 6'15", this piece was composed in 2010 for the choreography of Hope Lane and first performed at the University of Oklahoma School of Dance.

This is the third movement of "Dream Trajectories", by Joseph Hasper.  This performance is by Dr. Joseph Henry on the Fisk Opus 111 organ in Gothic Hall at the University of Oklahoma.

Without Form And Void

Joseph Hasper is an American composer best known for jazz influenced compositions and arrangements. He has written works for the Holland Symphony Orchestra, the Carolina Cool Jazz Orchestra, the Newburg Symphony, Pacific Fresno University, Abilene Christian University, and York College of Pennsylvania, as well as countless professional and educational ensembles.

Joseph studied composition with Marilyn Taft Thomas and Leonardo Balada at Carnegie-Mellon University. He later studied jazz theory and arranging with Rich Shemeira and Phil Markowitz at the Mannes College of Music, and earned a doctoral degree in composition from the University of Oklahoma where he teaches digital signal processing.

He has been active since 1981 as an arranger, piano soloist, sideman and combo leader. Notable engagements include long-running jazz trio gigs at the Seoul Hyatt; keyboardist and arranger for Harriet LeGrant; keyboardist and arranger for The Great Scott Band in Asbury Park, NJ, and staff arranger for US Army Bands based in Alabama, Washington State, New Jersey and Korea.
