Named as one of the agIdeas New Stars, Joseph Louis Tan is an award-winning industrial designer based in Singapore. He creates designs that inspire, benefit and excite others in the forms of products, furniture and visuals. Joseph is currently happily working at Barrows, a global retail marketing specialist, as their Junior Product Designer since August 2012.

At the start of 2012, Joseph founded Joseph Louis Tan Studio, an independent freelance design practice that specialises in industrial/ product design, furniture design and branding. With a belief that great designs derived from a close collaborative relationship of clients, users and designers, he is pleased to have personally worked with clients from various organisations ranging from start-ups, NGOs, to MNCs such as Schwan-Stabilo, Zone Telecom, Interlab Products.

As a Golden Jubilee Scholar and a Research Link Grant recipient, Joseph graduated from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Industrial Design with Honours, as well as a Diploma in Industrial Design with Merit from Nanyang Polytechnic prior. His recent designs have been humbled to be recognised with prestigious awards such as: 1st Place for Brightgreen Switched-On Design Competition (2012), 1st Place for the Cormack Innovation Awards (2010), Finalist for THE EDGE Design Competition (2012), Finalist for Vivid - Vibrant Visions In Design Competition (2011), Runner-Up for Electrolux Design Lab Australia (2011) and many others. 

Joseph’s designs have also been featured in Core77, Coroflot, Trendhunter, Design Launches, Designbuzz, Hometone, The Straits Times (Singapore), Circuit Magazine (Australia), Southern Courier, UNSW News and many other notable design blogs and websites, and company websites. He is honoured to have exhibited his designs at agIdeas New Star Exhibition – Melbourne Museum (2012) and Furnitex - Melbourne Exhibition Centre (2011).
