Taborah “Tabby” Johnson is a musical mentor, long found family, & being one of the original Mary Jane Girls to Rick James, & generally just having been all over everything & anything cool that was happening in the late 70’s / early 80’s, she’s been one of the most important people & such a guiding hand in the back of my mind for so long in this big crazy world of music.

She’s the Mother of my brother & best friend in the world 
Joachim Johnson, & for as far back as I care to look they’ve been a kind of stage family to me, Tabby especially so full of more stories, songs, & sage wisdom, than any book that’s ever been put to paper. & so... It was such an incredible thing to invite her back into the world I’ve built, with my team & musical community. Knowing that she was such an essential part of my beginnings. She actually gave me my very first show alongside Joachim, the two of us as only boys, standing there in front of a thousand odd people at Roy Thompson Hall.

So yeah,
this one’s really special to me,
