Joseph Shaw is a British composer, artist and tutor based in Leeds (UK). His work has been presented performed and work-shopped by ensembles including the Aber:ri Duo, Absolution Saxophone Quartet, Angeli Che Cantano, BBC Singers, Fox Valley Voices, Inyerface Arts, Manchester Camerata, Meraki Duo, Psappha, RNCM Brand New Orchestra, RNCM Contemporary Music Society, the RNCM New Music Ensemble and the Sheffield Music Academy Chamber Orchestra and many others UK-wide and abroad.

Joseph is currently the musical director of both Penistone Ladies Choir and Saddleworth Singers. He has a passion for performing and composing choral music in particular. He has made guest appearances as an assistant director with choirs across the North of England in both works of his own and music from a wide range of the choral repertoire.

Joseph holds both a Bachelor with Honours degree (2017) and a Masters in Composition and Artistic Research (2020) from the Royal Northern College of Music. His tutors included Professor Gary Carpenter, Professor Adam Gorb and Dr Larry Goves. In 2020 he was shortlisted for the RNCM Gold Medal, the conservatoires most prestigious award. He also studied at the Sheffield Music Academy from 2006 to 2013, with Callum Dewar and Dr Tom Owen.
