Doin' It Right (Harlsenberg Remix)

I started learning this piece around the age of 12 after hearing my Mum play it. I couldn't read sheet music at the time (and still can't, really) so Mum had to sit down with me and show me how to play it bar by bar. We got about halfway through before it fell into the too hard basket where it's remained for the last 20 years.

There's something about this song that makes me feel both intensely joyful and sad each time I play it. Returning to finish the entire piece after all this time has been a cathartic process. It's helped me to move on from the last several years of COVID-induced stasis and start to allow myself to have dreams and ambitions again.

The Heart Asks Pleasure First was composed by Michael Nyman for the 1993 film 'The Piano' - which explored how feelings of passion, love and ultimately hope are possible even amidst conditions of suffering and isolation. I hope you enjoy my rendition of it :)
