Alaska-based electronic artist Austin Williams, aka Nu Partial, announces his digital-only sophomore EP with Renraku, RRRRECEPTION. Scheduled to release worldwide April 2nd, the 24-minute experimental bass ride powers through submerged frequency manipulation and dynamic sound collages. Centered through the ethos of dance music, Nu Partial tethers each track into an avant-garde journey where dream-like lucid states and subconscious explorations are front and center. 


A bulk of RRRRECEPTION was created while Nu Partial resided in Mississippi, developing the final aspects of the EP after relocating to Alaska in support of his mother during a surgery. “I don't care if I live in Anchorage for another 20 years,” Nu Partial adds. “I will never get over the view. Maybe subconsciously it affects my production.” Two distinct worlds in environment and culture, the music is somehow streamlined through this recording process, behaving as creative travel for Nu Partial that stretched beyond each location’s pulse of life. Vision dictating path over immediate circumference of scene. 


Much like his debut EP, The Maw, Nu Partial’s RRRRECEPTION pulls from the ever-flowing well of life known as bass music. Elements push towards the experimental, built on a coalescence that snaps back and forth like a pinball, stitching together pieces of garage/2step, glitch, noise, downtempo, drum-n-bass, hip-hop, and lo-fi. RRRRECEPTION was made on FL Studio 20, with VSTs including Serum, UHE, and Kilohearts. The album cover was designed by Viktor Kadic, most notable for producing futuristic digital art for Mat Zo and his Mad Zoo imprint.

’Ego Death’ examines the hero's journey, the death and rebirth of the self, with the psychedelic experience as the narrative mechanism. It’s also a story about how I was changing as a person, a chronicle of my vision, values, and aspirations as an artist during the time of writing.

I’ve been fortunate to have electronic music as a place of healing in my life, a safe space to escape into and explore. Diving into this project at the start of the global covid-19 pandemic when everything was shutting down and things felt so uncertain was a sort of coping mechanism. During the 8-10 months prior to that, I had been overcome by this feeling that I had something more I needed to tell and explore within my work, something that I had been struggling to find and understand. It wasn’t until the mandatory isolation of quarantine that I was able to really parse out and confront what I was feeling and luckily I was able to make it into something tangible. This project is the result of that process.

I think a final point I’d like to offer up is that regardless of where the story ends, there is always a place beyond it. I’ve always loved to think about the unwritten narratives that follow a story's conclusion, about what happens with the characters and places after everything is said and done. I hope that those who take the time to listen to this record will consider that side of things now that this part of my story has ended.
