Sidney Charles, a name that's been on the tip of everyone's tongue of late, drops a stellar three-track EP via Jaymo & Andy George's Moda Black imprint this July, entitled 'Going Down'. Hamburg, Germany based producer Sidney Charles has been on a continual rise to fame over the past few years, dropping material on labels such as I'm A House Gangster, ViVa, Sci + Tec and Avotre. Charles has topped Resident Advisor's 100 Most Charted tracks recently and gained a residency at Tribal Sessions, Sankeys, Ibiza, a telling sign of the quality embodied in both his productions and DJ sets. Here we see Sidney join the infamous Moda Black imprint, joining the likes of Hot Since 82, Ejeca and Hauswerks on the roster. Title cut 'Going Down' opens things up, seeing Charles offer up his signature dance floor focused style with classic, heavily swung house rhythms, a raw bumpy bass hook, retro string stabs and a wandering, rugged synth lined, resulting in a quintessential house cut which oozes charm. Following is 'Warehouse Anthem' which as the name would suggest tips the focus over to a dark and brooding vibe, Sidney employs boomy, reverberated drum sounds with bubbling atmospherics, menacing synth sounds and hypnotizing acidic tinges, again creating something understated and packing a punch. Then last up to round off the package we have 'Hurricane', a brilliant closing piece which veers the aesthetic over to a more organic feel with natural percussive elements and rounded sub-bass tones, while an amalgamation of spoken-word vocal lines and crowd recordings generate a profound depth tucked away in the background of the composition.

Known for his work with Underground Resistance, ICAN Productions, as well as solo releases on many notable labels, Santiago brings his working man's house and techno into the world in its most pure form on this album. His use of a variety of rhythms and beautiful melodies puts him in the upper echelon of dance music producers today, and the results here are just as satisfying at home as they are in on the dancefloor. 

By mixing his Chicano roots with his time spent in Detroit, Santiago has created a timeless musical statement on behalf of the underdogs whose contributions to house and techno are often paid lip service to, but are much more rarely realized. The groove here is just as important as the harmonies, and they work together to achieve something very special on Chicanismo. This is music that lifts the spirit to a higher plane, the true definition of soul music.

Our search for talent was dazzled by the mechanical grooves of Nicola aka @tmm82. A Neapolitan DJ and producer, he joins the Flankup family after his latest releases on Save the Groove
and Denied Area. The EP is made up of unique compositions, dirty grooves and acid basslines typical of minimalist electro-funk.

"Samba do Gescal" is the first track of "TwoThousandAndShitty EP" and immediately the legs cannot stand still. The track evokes images of walking through the streets of the Gescal area in the Secondigliano district in Naples, the samba rhythms flowing from the balconies above transform the street into a carnival where girls and boys alike dance to the mechanical notes of a cassette stereo.

Life is not just partying and fun, stress and everyday problems consume us. A breakpoint is needed to restore balance, recharge the batteries and restart. "Fly Away (I Can)" is the journey that each of us seeks to completely break away from the daily routine. At this point there is nothing left to do: close your eyes, imagine, fly.

The strength to continue is back, but something has been circulating in the mind for days, that bass line, that frantic melody that just won’t detach itself from the mind! The only thing to do is to lock
yourself in the studio and put together the fragmented puzzle pieces to give new life to this sound. "About that bass" is the final result.
