'Deleted' (NAS020)

This is a compilation of tracks I finished in December of 2015 that finally saw release on the great Brazilian imprint Somos NAS. It was nice to find someone that believed in the work and was inspired by it. I am happy to have it released on this label as well as being the first Gringo involved with NAS.

The tracks are inspired by moods and situations and I convert these human experiences into music, using my love of dance music and hip-hop beats as a template for expression. What I think is interesting is that everything is pretty flexible on here, and does not sit into any classification of this or that as a whole. I'm proud to be able to start doing this as things are pretty black and white for awhile when your starting to find your sound.

Columbus, OH resident Kevin Brugger graces the extensive SQL catalogue with two exceptional tracks that are great to close out our summer with. 'Lose Control' is a loose and summery house joint that laces a great vocal loop atop lo-fi leaning drums, all wrapped together in an accessible arrangement. The electro mix of 'Alien Satellite' provides a banging combination of classic 808 rhythms atop a funky robotic vocal sample and acidy, washed out synth lines. Josh Mace manages to package and re-arrange 'Lose Control' into something more rigid and accessibility is improved by strengthening drums and tightening the tune overall. Another take on the track without overlapping the charm and characteristic of the original.

Primulina is an African Violet closely associated with Jasmine. As a closing to 2016, this track is simply a way of dealing with some complex experiences and emotions I've been dealing with this week. Following the massive 41 track '3067 Megs' charity compilation, which raised money for a nice young lady with health problems in Adelaide ( meganmccarthy.bandcamp.com/releases ), Recycled Plastics once again heeds the call and steps forward with a second charity effort - this time to help the citizens of Houston, TX in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. 

This time around, RP collects 18 tracks - clocking in at just over two hours in length - that playfully hop from genre to genre. There are moments of clubby techno, warm reggae dub, majestic ambient scenes and even an epic 20-minute live hardware jam. It's a potent showcase of many different shades of bedroom music, as is our trade here at RP, and the quality contained herein is a testament to the talented people who contributed their time and energy to assemble this compilation so quickly.

Something I made last year in response to the passing of my beautiful aunt, Vicky Roberts, who was a victim of cancer.

Her death affected me deeply, but no tears were shed until I saw my father cry. I had only seen him cry once in my entire life. I looked over and saw him, and emotions flooded my entire body. That was his sister, and they were extremely close. When I was a child, my young parents and I lived with my aunt in her large, blue house on Mogadore Road. I remember walking to a summer camp at the local Lions park, and building bike jumps out of wood and cinder blocks with my cousins. There was always green kool-aid in her fridge and Velveeta mac & cheese. She was part Native-American, loved Jade, and was an avid collector of dream catchers and figurines. It was a very happy time in my life.

She battled cancer for what I believe to be 5 or 6 years, maybe more. During this time I was just growing into my twenties and was so self-absorbed I grew apart from her and the rest of my family. As dysfunctional families tend to turn out this way, near the end of her life our family was starting to come together again. People always say, "if I could only go back I would do this and this!" .. I would have liked to have more of a relationship with her.

She had found religion and it played a huge part in her life. I like to think she confronted death with bravery and grace, as that was much a part of her personality.
