So happy to finally be sharing “sunshine” with you all!! 🥹

As happy and positive as this song is, I was actually enduring an extremely dark season of life when I wrote it. I was battling depression, suicidal thoughts and dreams, and going through a painful divorce. Sunshine was a prayer, a hope, believing in the good ahead, fighting for the good in myself, for the good I want to see in the world, and for the good I believe exists in every human, despite all the darkness each of us face. I may not have wanted to endure my darkness, but it was through all of it, I was able to find immense light, as I embraced the love, joy, and peace that surrounded me. Regardless of what I was facing, there was still good ahead, and I chose to fully embrace that goodness. Through it all, I found my sunshine. And I’m so thankful for the growth, the learning, and the healing that’s taken place in both my and my fiancée’s heart. 

This song is our story, and it’s also our heart and desire for you as you read this. We may or may not know each other, but I love you, and I truly want you to know just how wonderful and loved you are. You are enough, and the love surrounding you, whether you know it or not, is more than enough as you endure the hardships you face. My hope for you is to acknowledge the sunshine in your life and embrace it wholeheartedly. There is so much more good ahead. Your story is far from done ☀️

First and foremost, I’d like to thank, the incredibly talented, Max Hurrell, for creating Heart Beats with me. I had just moved back home to my family when Max sent me this beautiful guitar line to write to, which is literally the foundation of Heart Beats. This song would not have come to life without Max’s wonderful soul, and ability to create heartfelt music. 

When I began writing this song, the emotions of abandonment and confusion were still fresh, and I was going to bed every night praying for a miracle. But I realized it was a miracle I’d already been seeking for 7 years. I had to learn and accept that some miracles don’t happen the way we believe 'they should be,’ or ‘want them to.’ The fact that I’m alive, breathing, and surrounded by love, kindness, and so much goodness is such a miracle, and is worth celebrating, fighting for, embracing and believing in. And the fact that I’m not bitter, angry, or have a hardened heart, is an absolute miracle. My pain has only solidified the desires of my heart. I love being a husband, and I look forward to being one again. I love people, and I want to help others who are hurting heal. I love singing, I love writing songs, I love creating, and I don’t plan on stopping any time soon. 

Gratitude takes what you have, and makes it enough. But I was told that I’m not enough, and my love isn’t enough. 

No. I am enough. And my love is more than enough. By no means am I perfect, and no, I’ve never had my life ‘together,' nor have a made a lot of money, but even in my darkest moments, I loved immensely, and I fought for the good in the one I loved most wholeheartedly. Because that’s who I am. I am kind, I am loving, I am gentle, I am caring, I am strong, and I am full of courage. I didn’t give up. And although I’m still waiting for this chapter of my life to close, I haven’t given up, even as I move forward.

Because when my heart beats... I don’t run away.

I'll Buy A House

This song is a love letter. It’s my heart for everyone I love. For my family. For my friends. This song is a love letter for you. And I hope it can be a love letter for everyone you love as well. The words are how I believe God sees us. With love. With joy. With a smile. With open arms. With endearing eyes. And although they may not exist yet, this song is how I see my children, how I see my wife. This song has been in my heart for years. Even though I was in a dark place when I wrote it, I was writing in pursuit of light. I sought a future I believe in... a future still worth believing in. 

We’ve all experienced sad, unfortunate hardships, and even now, life isn’t quite the way we expected or wanted... and it’s okay to not be okay. We’re in this together. Love still remains. Hope is not lost. Joy is on its way. So may we embrace what truly matters. May we learn to never quit. To never give up. To never stop fighting for the good in those we love, for the good within ourselves, for the good in others.

Light shines brightest in the darkest of places. And I believe there is light within each of us. Even through the sadness and pain we endure, there is still light. I believe this world can come together more united than it’s ever been. Embracing love and goodness within one another. Across all cultures. Across all nations. Across all languages, beliefs, lifestyles, backgrounds, ethnicities, and experiences. We were created to face life together. And I believe we have far more in common than the borders and homes that ‘separate’ us.

We’re all healing together. Learning together. Growing together. And I believe we can all flourish together. I believe what Kobe said, “It’s not the destination, it’s the journey. And if you can understand that, then what you’ll see happen is that you won’t accomplish your dreams, your dreams won’t come true — something greater will.” 

I believe. One step at a time.

I Choose Love

I sing and write songs to create meaningful connections and let people know there is purpose beyond the pain we face in this life. There is still so much good ahead and still so much light to be embraced. My greatest desire is to normalize kindness, and for love to become the currency that is most valued in our society and world culture.
