Techno has been reclaimed and refined in the last few years. For Ghanaian-American Discwoman associate Akua (@akua_b), that means a deep dedication to bringing forth narratives about the genre's history. It's about original, authentic and rebellious old school values of the sort that Underground Resistance defined so early on. It's about breaking modern expectations with a fresh sense of attitude. Her recontextualisation of techno centres its long lineage for contemporary audiences. All this most often plays out in Akua's blazing sets, most often during the late-night and early morning hours of the clubs around her New York City hometown. They find her transmute 90s nostalgia while connecting the dots between past and present. "Playing fast feels cathartic," she says, "and helps me deal with the nostalgia I have for a time that I never got to experience but remember and connect with so fondly.”

This week's mix is a testament to that: it starts with 1994's 'Global Warning' from the late great K-Hand and goes on to cover decades of history at warp speed. There are frenetic layers of percussion and hammering kick drums, bouncing bass lines and arresting rave synths all threaded together into something hugely powerful and muscular. It is only a DJ with Akua's sense of control that can serve up a chaotic collision of sound in such a compelling way.

N:CK aka Nicolò Temperini, is an artist who has made sound research the driving force of his musical journey. His meticulous and almost artisanal approach to music selection and production sets him apart in the contemporary music landscape, where sonic aesthetics become both language and identity.

His productions are characterized by depth and timbral complexity: every sound is carefully selected and sculpted through a creative process that combines intuition, study, and detailed manipulation. The unconventional use of textures, samples, and broken rhythms gives rise to tracks that resist easy categorization, yet maintain a strong expressive coherence. He favors the use of analog and modular synthesizers tools that allow him to shape each sound in an unrepeatable way, making every track a unique sonic work. This choice is not merely technical, but conceptual: the uniqueness and imperfection of analog sound become a vehicle for deeply personal and unreplicable expression.

During his DJ sets, N:CK brings the same attention and sensitivity he applies in the studio. Each track is selected with the aim of crafting a coherent, engaging, and never banal sonic journey one where the tension between structure and chaos, rhythm and abstraction, creates a space for deep and transformative listening.

Last week's Full Moon in Capricorn puts the focus on the future. As a matter of course, you are working on the goals you want to achieve. You feel that you shouldn't sit back now, but want to get to work. This has everything to do with the influence of the sign of Capricorn. Capricorn has a strong need for security. This sign is always working toward goals, ultimately creating a stable, secure situation for itself. 

Although Capricorn and Cancer (the sign in which the sun is) are opposites, they are both focused on security and safety. This expresses itself in different ways. Capricorn cares about a good reputation and is willing to work hard to get it. It is not surprising if Capricorn spends a lot of time in the workplace or in the (home) office. For Cancer, it is different. Cancer makes sure that the home feels safe and that everyone feels comfortable enough to express their emotions.

After making a strong impression at "rural presents New Acao" in Atami, the Spanish techno master Oscar Mulero returned to the rural stage for the closing set on the third day of the festival this year, and once again pulling the floor into a deep groove universe. As a prelude to the release of the live recording of 2025, we are pleased to share it with you. We hope you enjoy this solid techno set, filled with pure techno pleasure in every direction.

Oscar Mulero at rural 2025

Three hours of incendiary techno, as two veterans go head-to-head.

When Speedy J described his studio dynamic with Chris Liebing back in 2014, he put it bluntly: "I try to piss him off a little." The result? Dance music that's as functional and precise as Liebing demands, with just enough chaos to keep it interesting. That tension has defined the duo's partnership, Collabs 3000, since their first releases, and it's alive and well on their debut RA Mix. 

Both artists are techno heavyweights in their own right. Jochem Paap, AKA Speedy J, helped Europe slow down after the breakneck '90s, proving that techno could chug as well as pummel. Liebing, meanwhile, commanded his popular label CLR and went from transforming schranz into the hard techno sound that recently swept up a younger generation of ravers. 

As a pair, Collabs 3000 undeniably has its ear trained on the big room. Paap and Liebing are both former Berghain regulars, and the Berlin club's influence is clear across RA.1006: taut, muscular techno, or "effective and structured" in Liebing's words, with Paap injecting the right amount of unpredictability. Their 2005 full-length, Metalism, remains a landmark: polished, uncompromising and dynamite for any large sound system. 

With the album now remastered for its 20th anniversary, Collabs 3000's RA Mix brings that same ferocious energy into sharp focus: smouldering textures, peak-time pressure and three unrelenting hours of classic techno.
