Long renowned for his passion, dedication & flawless mixing and marathon DJ sets, and having just been voted 75th of all time best DJ of in the world by Dash Berlin World; Anthony Pappa’s unique trademark defining “track selection, journey build, & precision mixing skills” coupled with his overall way of making things just pop has seen him become one of Australia’s most successful DJ exports.
 
Originally from Melbourne, Anthony’s DJ career began at the age of 15 where he won the DMC mixing championship. At the age of 20, frustrated at being halfway around the world from where the music he loved was happening, he moved to the UK’s capital, London, to follow his passion & love of music & Djing. The move was not in vain as it wasn’t long before his talents were picked up by a core group of the UK’s biggest DJ’s who together & forged a strong squad of players that would shape the sounds that have been constantly evolving and always pushing the boundaries over the last two decades and will continue to do so for many years to come byAnthony & others alike.
 
To date, having a history of 35 years within the electronic music industry (clubs,festivals, parties) and having world renowned Origin Agency and Poster Child Agency on Anthony’s side, he has forged constant touring & success throughout South America, Mexico, Europe & Australia. With various tours seeing him, in one year, having a touring schedule including just over 100 performances at various clubs and festivals over the globe he never disappoints his fans.
 
Alongside DJing & continuing to build a reputation for his un-parallel mixing skills, set programming plus the ability to adapt to whatever club environment he finds himself in.  Production was & is still is key to Anthony’s success. His use of musical knowledge of chord structures and melodic phrasing to make sure everything is mixed in key is evident in every track he seamlessly blends / mixes together.  
 
Key tracks produced include: with high profile releases including his massive
collaboration with King Unique called “Vamoosh” released on Bedrock and long time classic Freefall “Skydive” on Stress Records which was UK/European number 1 hit single in the charts.
 
With numerous club anthem singles, remixes plus 6 mix compilations (2 at 200,000 + in sales) he has been released on labels including Sony/BMG, Platipus Records, System Recordings, EQ (Grey), Darkbeat Recordings ‘Darkbeat 10th Anniversary Collection’ and most notably on Boxed Global Underground Nubreed series.
 
Mixed compilations for Renaissance and was the first DJ to be selected for the
Global Underground Nu Breed series which saw him, play over 70 cities around the world and amass sales of over 50,000 copies of the release. Anthony has also done mixes for the cover mount CD for DJ Mag’s coveted Top 100 DJ’s edition receiving high praise from all the big hitters and industry professionals alike.

The Exclusive Series Mix - Episode 20 - Luke Brancaccio

Welcome to the latest edition of The Exclusive Series and we are thrilled to bring you a mix from the one and only Steve Parry.  

2 hours and 20 minutes of cosmic brilliance, to mark a special moment in the story of Selador, Steve's highly regarded label that he co-runs with the legend Dave Seaman....

As UK based Independent Electronic Dance label Selador Recordings approach their 9th anniversary, neatly coinciding with their 150th release, label bosses Dave Seaman & Steve Parry celebrate by unveiling an exciting new collaborative project under the alias, Nunchi Coup.

“We wanted to try to capture our 30+ year journey through Acid House Culture with some new work that reflected our history but still had it’s finger firmly on the pulse of the here and now” explains Dave “Steve and I are both Acid House Lifers but continue to be just as excited by new music as we were back in those early halcyon days. Running the label together has only served to reinforce that.”

“The vibe is a little more raw than what we’d usually do” Steve continues, “We were aiming for Nunchi Coup to have a more classic House and Techno sound. A nod to our heritage but still in a contemporary setting. After three decades in the business we’re even more aware of the circular nature of things.”

The two tracks on offer, whilst quite different in style, definitely have a unifying bond in that they both sound like they could have been made any time in the last 30 years. The astutely named, sample-laced ’Slaves To The Algo-Rhythm’ draws on the classic combination of emotional, soaring, orchestral strings set atop slamming House beats. Goosebumps-a-go-go! Whilst it’s bed partner, the visceral jackhammer that is ‘Coping Mechanism’ packs a punch like Tyson Fury with it’s Rave stabs and strong Warehouse party DNA. In Yer Face!

And the name, Nunchi Coup? What’s that all about then?

Nunchi is the Korean word for the ability to gauge how people are thinking and feeling in order to create connection, trust and harmony. Like a sixth sense, a kind of emotional intelligence and awareness of your surroundings.

“The concept spoke to us as DJs, that subtle art of reading the room and acting appropriately has been the mainstay of our musical philosophy since forever. The Koreans believe Nunchi is the secret to happiness and we can’t argue with that”.

In the crowded electronic music climate, it’s hard maintaining a blueprint that helps you stand out from the crowd but in its ten year history, the Selador boys have managed to do just that. The label run by Dave Seaman and Steve Parry has quickly built a reputation as leading exponents of high grade acid house and techno.

The label’s name was inspired from a memorable passage from Richard Kelly’s 2001 cult classic movie ‘Donnie Darko’, where the most phonetically pleasing combination of words in the English language is mooted – Cellar Door. The assertion is that nothing else manages to make our vocabulary quite as beautiful. The idea of ‘beautiful sound’ through communication struck a chord with the duo, highlighting their own eternal quest for the perfect beat.

The label has released a diverse amount of music from a seriously talented ensemble of established names and exciting talent. For its 10th anniversary, names like Robert Babicz, Oliver Giacomotto, Robert Owens, Hernan Cattaneo, Jamie Stevens, Quivver and 3_D DJs are among the people who’ve taken on the task of the ever developing Selador sound.

Victor Ruiz, a dynamic selector with a deep appreciation for music, crafts compelling sets full of vigour and vibrancy.  A Brazilian now based in Europe, he has been a constant presence on the world stage since 2013, mesmerizing audiences with his DJ performances at influential events. In the studio, he releases top-notch techno productions showcasing his distinct musicality and energy. Victor's upbeat approach is evident in his arsenal of edits, including iconic tracks like 'Breathe' by The Prodigy and 'Everything Counts' by Depeche Mode. With a lifelong dedication to music, Victor Ruiz is hardworking, talented, and driven by passion.

Inspired by his brother's love for heavy metal, Victor learned to play multiple instruments and joined bands during his formative years. He pursued electronic music production in university, drawing influences from Daft Punk, MTV, and Fruity Loops. As a DJ, he refined his skills through challenging experiences, learning in the field without decks at home.

Victor's profile in Brazil skyrocketed with a big hit, leading to performances at major festivals and venues, connecting him with international selectors. In 2013, his first European tour marked a turning point in his career, exposing him to Europe's progressive club culture. His international profile grew rapidly, eventually leading him to relocate to Berlin in 2018.

Currently, Victor Ruiz travels the world with a busy schedule of gigs, delivering powerful performances that entertain and challenge the dance floor. He has gained a massive global following, captivating audiences with his musical odyssey. Victor's studio work on labels like Drumcode, Noir Music, and Suara showcases his playful attitude and unique sound, influenced by various genres. His music reflects his identity and serves as an invitation to get to know him better.

Still playing the bass guitar, Victor remains deeply passionate about music. He appreciates the simple things in life and approaches his craft with humility. Hello and welcome to our Il Modo Exclusive Series Mix for November 2023, courtesy of Will Day.  

UK DJ – Will Day was born in 1978,  and by his 20's, had grown up with the sounds of The Prodigy, Carl Cox, and The Chemical Brothers, to name a few. He would frequently be found dancing along to some of best DJ’s in the scene of the 1990s, like Sasha and John Digweed at the Manor & Carl Cox, Alex P, Dave Seaman and Tall Paul at the Opera House, both clubs situated in Bournemouth. 

Will first started DJ'ing around 1997, at house parties in Bournemouth, and quickly moved onto club nights in London, as well gigs on the London festival scene. He currently plays at Bars and Clubs in and around  Reading, UK.

Will has been a resident DJ on Frisky Radio for 5 years with his show Phonic Dust, and has had a monthly residency show on All About The Music Radio (AATM radio) with his show Transcend. Plus many guest mixes for other Online Stations such as Without Wall, Subcode, Resonate Together, MixPub, and SaturoSounds.

Will’s style and inspiration are influenced by artists such as Sasha, John Digweed, Henry Saiz, Charlie May, Jamie Stevens, James Harcourt, Stelios Vassiloudis, Solee, Franky Wah, Matthias Meyer and Stephan Bodzin. 

Will's sets often feature a selection of underground electronic genres, a mixture of melodic, progressive house and breaks, techno, woven in-between beautiful vocals, glorious synths and killer chords. Will's sets are designed to put you in a dreamscape, framed by heavy-pounding techno beats, all dressed up in his signature smooth progressive style

Il Modo is proud to present our 9th Exclusive Series Mix, by the legend of the scene, the one and only Dave Seaman.

There aren’t many artists who’ve soundtracked the birth of dance music and are still  leading its development more than two decades later. Dave Seaman is one of a select few.  

Whether it’s one of his spine-tingling Global Underground or Renaissance CDs that’s still burning a hole in your stereo years after its purchase, or the perfect pop of Kylie’s ‘Confide In Me’ that he wrote, produced and remixed, there’s very few with  their heart in electronic music who haven’t been touched by his oeuvre in one form  or another.  

Having devoted almost every weekend over the last 30 years to moving dancefloors from Ibiza to Iceland, Seaman has played the world’s most recognised festivals and clubs in more than 80 countries throughout his career, while still lending his production nous to the music industry’s A List. Along with crafting beats for Ms Minogue and Pet Shop Boys, everyone from David Bowie to New Order and U2 to Michael Jackson have received a Seaman re-rub.

Wind the clock back to when Seaman was eight years old and it’s difficult to imagine anyone wanting to devote their life to music quite as much as the Leeds-born lad. By the early ‘80s, the music obsessive was spinning records at his high school disco and earning his pocket money playing friends’ birthday parties. He knew how to talk-the-talk, too. In 1987 the still-amateur DJ and DMC member won a trip to New York to attend the New Music Seminar – the industry’s most important event at that time. The trip ultimately led him to land the editor’s role at Mixmag, a position he’d hold for the next three years.

Seaman played his first bona-fide professional DJ gig at the legendary Shelley’s in  Stoke in 1990, stroking vinyl alongside a couple of emerging talents by the name of  Sasha and Laurent Garnier. Acid house was blooming and Seaman’s boundless  enthusiasm and creative spirit was petrol in it’s tank.  
Teaming up with producer and friend Steve Anderson, the duo recorded as Brothers  In Rhythm, birthing the seminal rave anthem ‘Such A Good Feeling’ which became a UK Top 20 hit, while also issuing the landmark ‘Mixmag Live Volume’ 1 with Carl Cox in 1991 – a release that stands as one of the first ever commercially available mix compilations.  

Seaman’s unrelenting desire to propel music at all levels saw him kickstart the  Stress Records imprint through DMC, showcasing tunes by some of the finest talent  in dance music for more than a decade. Artists including Sasha, Danny Tenaglia,  John Digweed and Groove Armada’s Andy Cato all released smoking club cuts on  the label, with many crediting it as acting as a global launching pad for their careers.  

He followed Stress with a decade at the helm of Audio Therapy where similar levels  of success ensued proving his ability to spot & nurture talent time and time again.  

Without a doubt, his relationship with Renaissance is one of the most renowned in  dance music, with Seaman having contributed 10 mixes to the revered series. Global Underground view the Brit in a similarly lofty light, having secured his services to mix their Melbourne, Buenos Aires, Cape Town & Lithuanian volumes.

Today, Seaman’s passion to exhibit boundary-breaking talent is as strong as ever.  Via the independent record label Selador Recordings which he co owns with long  time friend, Steve Parry, his inspired A&R has helped nurture some of the finest  groove-merchants in dance music. The label’s roster speaks for itself, with Danny  Howells, Cristoph, Dubspeeka, D Nox & Beckers, Quivver, EdOne, Gorge and  Robert Babicz all contributing tracks and remixes.

Even by his high standards this mix is a beaut ❤ ; we are beyond grateful and feeling very honoured.  We really hope you enjoy this as much as we have.
