Second Tbilisi-based resident to grace our special Bassiani x RYC summer collab, Nebbieri steps in with two hours of straight mind-altering material for the buffs. A deluge of uptempo alien wares and left-of-centre breaksy manoeuvres blended with homing hi-tech warheads, Nebbieri’s delivery takes no byway to get its message across. As with all Bassiani in-house jockeys, she undoubtedly masters the art of transition and radical tempo switches to perfection, and the ruthlessly addictive buildups she unreels here attests to her magnificent mixing skills and unfaltering resolution in wreaking absolute havoc wherever she gets to play at. Beware an atomic summer with Oppenheimer coming to theaters mid-July. Meanwhile here’s Nebbieri nuking out the competition, clean and tidy.

Dishing out his own part - and what a choice cut! - of the Bassiani gospel through the RYC waves this week, Georgian wizard Kancheli fires off a stupendous two-hour round of his immersive take on techno music, beautifully merging cinematic depth of field with hi-impact kinetic grooves. A former percussionist and Jazz head, Kancheli flexes the width of his musical palette to compelling effect, clashing full-blown functional DJ tools against abstract-adjacent flights to form his own dynamic yet hypnotic dance grammar away from normative constraints and ephemeral fads. The result is a bumpy, shape-shifting masterclass of a mix, bridging the gap betwixt proper floor-focussed explosiveness and more inward-gazing extrapolations. Complex and refined, a techno work of art.

Bassiani 9 hours 😱 live mix to kick off 2o25 💕💕

I’m releasing a ‘shorter’ version inc. room recording out of my 11h set from the legendary Horoom. For so many reasons it was one of my most joyful / meaningful sets I played in 2024. It was a Hydrash collective queer celebration started with a ball, a freestyle voguing dance session and a performance that led to my all-night-long set. For the entire 11h there was a true sense of togetherness and the energy was beautiful. I hope this energy comes through in the recording 👂✨ 

With a bitter taste, it all happened under the shadow of a new anti-LGBTQIA laws which a right-wing government had been preparing and fully enacted just two months later. These laws effectively criminalize being openly gay and label anything related to LGBTQIA+ identities as propaganda. The government as well prevents the freedom of the Georgian people to join the EU and using unlawful tactics to control the population will, including aggression and arresting of protestors. 

Tbilisi’s dance music scene has long been a powerful driver of change. Today, the club community is taking a stand, going on strike, and protesting in the streets. How can we support them? With a stream of fascinating appearances Cleyra’s singular production has caught the ears of some of the most adventurous DJs and heads around the world. One of Bristol’s best-kept secrets now lands on Timedance with their sumptuous debut EP ‘remember this body?’. Charged with a juxtaposition between feverish peak time and dreamy downbeat, the producer here displays a sonic palette which is as eerie as it is advanced.

On ’remember this body?’ Cleyra offers a kaleidoscopic view of their diverse approach to crafting songs, nourished with a deep, emotional and seductive energy. Across five tracks we take a deep dive into Cleyra’s idiosyncratic worlds. Subdued pads carry us through lucid-dream-inducing soundscapes where strangeness and elegance go hand in hand. Then come playful twists, as a harder side to their sound is unleashed, engineered to alight the sweatiest and most mutant of dancefloors.

On the flip side, Cleyra takes listeners on a breathtaking ride over the course of a 17-minute epic ’There Is Nothing Happening Between Us’, navigating between mournful ambience and heads-down pulsating Techno with a grace and delicateness rarely heard. The track fades before bringing things home with lush, dubbed-out, synths, suspending time with a poignant elegance.

Tumble Turn

CCL launches their subglow label with Rebuild, an EP from Bristol club provocateur @georg-i, featuring remixes from Metrist and the elusive B. McQueen.

After years of lighting up the dance floor at subglow and serving as a cornerstone in club sets, Rebuild is finally getting an official release to the public. georg-i’s previous releases on Perko’s FELT and aya & BFTT’s YCO imprints have established him as an incendiary club constructor probing the fringes of contemporary dance music. The release will be accompanied by poetry from subglow co-conspirator and artist Nadia Marcus, co-founder of Berlin experimental publishing platform TABLOID Press.

Informed by the restlessness of living in an apocalyptic present and the desire to rebuild the broken systems surrounding us, Rebuild is influenced by math rock's feverish and cataclysmic energy, eschewing conventional club BPMs in favour of dizzying tempo trickery and polymetric wizardry. “Torn In Two” gets off to a slow, chugging start, with raucous synths riffing over emphatic drums, but soon swirls into a juddering, pointillistic frenzy. “Bridging The Gap” is a cathartic shout, an acidic crescendo whose triplet meter offers tempo-transitioning opportunities for adventurous DJs who don’t mind a bit of maths. “Communication” gallops along cathartically through ricocheting synths and drums, unfolding into a thrilling breakdown. On remix duties, B. McQueen re-imagines “Torn In Two” as a sultry, dubbed-out roller, charting groove across a heady plain, while Metrist’s ambitious rework of “Communication” amps up the tension and primes it for a peak-time dancefloor sometime in the next millennium.
