To celebrate this year's Piano Day, I decided to record a miniature for a piano. The new series is called "Piano Meditations", in which I will record ten tracks. Before this happens, I encourage you to listen to the first piece that initiates the cycle and celebrates Piano Day 2021.

What is Piano Day?
Piano Day, an annual worldwide event founded by a group of likeminded people, takes place on the 88th day of the year – in 2021 it’s the 29th March – because of the number of keys on the instrument being celebrated.

Lorenzo Masotto is a composer and pianist from Verona, Italy, with releases on labels such as Sonder House, Lady Blunt Records, Preserved Sound and Dronarivm. He has performed in many venues, most notably London’s Union Chapel whilst tours have taken him to California Sofar and concerts at the Iberian Theater in Lisbon and the concert at De Helling in Utrecht.

i=r is an album which Lorenzo started to write when the pandemic broke out across northern Italy and much of the world, in March 2020. He set out initially to explore the complete tonal possibilities of a Seiler upright piano, restricted to two microphones. He became fascinated as he discovered the beauty and sonic elegance of a hammer touching the string, muffled by felt, as the motion and vibrations created all kinds of creaks and noises within the wood.

i=r, known as Snell’s Law, is the law of refraction. Each piece of this album represents a different refraction, as different points of view reflected in an artificial or natural mirror. The accompanying photography by Michele Dolci is as much a part of the album as the music, as individual scenes of symmetry, asymmetry and reflection each depict a given track from the album.

It is perhaps fitting exactly one year on since the ideas behind this album emerged, that this bright and fluid collection of compositions beam their rays of hope back from those dark reflections. Light and darkness, warmth and cold, strong and frail, hopeful and despairing. Our hope now is to emerge into the light, under the warmth of spring, with a renewed strength born of our collective despair.

Zavata: A Slice of Time soundtrack by Ruslan Perezhilo. The film is directed by Fernando Antonio Maffei, produced by Francesco Tribuzio, with cinematography by Lisa Muzzulini and sound by Massimiliano Borghesi. The cover features a painting by Barbara Stefani. This international project was shot in Trieste, Italy, with some post-production completed in the United Kingdom. The film features actors Francesco Tribuzio, Alessia Franchin, Zoe Pernici, Mefehnja Tatcheu, Susanna Gilardi, Michela Cembran, and Lorenzo Acquaviva.

Love Spell

Deep cosmic mantra music with 432Hz and 963Hz frequencies, 55–65 bpm, rich low drones and deep evolving pads, layered male and female voices softly chanting a short blessing mantra in a circular, repeating pattern, gentle echo and large space reverb. No strong drums, only a subtle low pulse underneath, solemn yet comforting atmosphere, full of light and healing energy, perfect for deep meditation, energy cleansing and space clearing rituals, wide and immersive soundstage, detailed but minimal arrangement.

Having occasionally released music under his real name, Mirza Ramic (of Arms and Sleepers & Saigon Would Be Seoul) will be releasing a string of standalone singles this year outside of his usual music projects. In celebration of Piano Day 2021, Mirza Ramic will present 'Letting Go', a somber 3-minute piece mostly centered around piano. For last year's Piano Day, Mirza unexpectedly found himself in Riga, Latvia as his final Russian tour dates (as Arms and Sleepers) were canceled amidst the pandemic. This was a musically productive period, but nevertheless one filled with anxiety and uncertainty as Covid-19 was introducing a new global reality in March 2020. The upcoming new single is symbolically released a year later and is in many ways about letting go of those surreal and complicated feelings that we all felt in 2020, especially at the onset of the crisis. 'Letting Go' is about processing and releasing in order to move on, regardless of how difficult the path forward might seem.
