"Holding Eliza" was written with love for Eliza Eliana and her family. Special thanks to the University of Arkansas Orchestra for partnering with me to produce this recording for her.

While teaching two special seminars in music in January 2016, I stayed with Jonathan and Elizabeth for several weeks. This was right after they had found out about their unborn daughter's, Eliza, diagnosis. During this time, I wrote a piece for orchestra: it was my way of coping, a sympathetic expression of hope for my best friends. Upon returning to Little Rock, I shared a demo of the song that I wanted to dedicate to their baby girl. On the day she was born, I conducted the orchestra at the University of Arkansas to record her song, which Elizabeth and Jonathan have entitled “Holding Eliza.”

Hallucination as a fleeting vision, this piece was conceived with the potential of being included in another project I've got in development. Despite not making the final version of that work, it was fun to write and produce this musical moment that evokes beauty and mystery.
