A rookery in Landshut recorded early on a Sunday morning. There are at least 1000 rooks, jackdaws and a few crows roosting here in the centre of town. This area with many trees and two small streams incorporates the local hospital, the swimming baths and a town park. There´s not much human sound to hear except for the church bells which, I think give the recording an acoustic fingerprint of birds using the town as a safe refuge to roost. They come from a large area surrounding Landshut.

This is a recording of a wood ant / Waldameisen nest about 60 meters away from a wind turbine. I placed two LOM Geofones contact microphones and spikes just into the nest. Every so often the sound of the turbine cutting in can be heard as a bass rumble. I´ve kept it in because maybe the ants feel the vibrations and it´s also a "sound of place" recording. They were very active  in this warm spring afternoon.

Brackish is a site-specific environmental sound installation and live real-time continual broadcast. A single hydrophone placed within a fishing creel (functioning both as protective enclosure and microphone shock mount) records the daily activity of a sea loch adjacent to the port of Lochmaddy on the island of North Uist.

The microphone is strategically located behind the small island of Eilean Casaig at a confluence of edge habitats between the industrial port, connecting marine traffic to the Minch, and the tidal sea lochs which extend into uninhabited natural lands. Among the tidal ebb and flow of currents anthropogenic sounds of seaweed harvesting, ferry traffic, and fishing boats compete with natural sounds of the marine habitat of the bay.

Siin leidub tavalisi hääli, sest mis ime see metsavahi koera haukumine või mesilaste sumin kirsipuus siis ikka on, aga on ka tähelepanuväärseid salvestisi. Kõrede koorilaulu või lagleparve lärmi ei kuule me naljalt mujal Nõukogude Liidus, paljude paikade helipilt muutub aga aasta-aastalt üha vaesemaks. Rohunepp kaob kogu Euroopast, Puhatu rabas seisavad juba tulevase kaevanduse piiritähised. Nii on “Helipilte Eesti loodusest” ka omamoodi ajaloolise väärtusega dokument.

Looduse hääled on salvestatud stereomagnetofoniga Nagra IVS, stereomikrofoni Schoeps CMTS 501 U, mikrofonide Sony F 115 ning suundmikrofonide C451CB + CK9 ja CK8 paaride abil. Heliplaat on ette valmistatud Eesti Raadios."

In a new podcast for Nature Unwrapped, composer and sound recordist Chris Watson follows the overgrown railway path between Aldeburgh and Saxmundham, a favourite haunt of composer Benjamin Britten, recording an array of elemental, animal and bird sounds, including the outpouring of a nightingale.

The Old Railway Path was originally conceived as an installation in Hall One. In response to the current situation Chris Watson has created a narrated podcast for the Kings Place audience.

“Linnuhääli metsadest” (I ja II) toob kuulajani valiku eesti metsalindude hääli. Need on Eesti Raadio “Looduse aabitsa” tarvis salvestatud helipildid ja lindude häälitsused, peamiselt laulud, mis käesolevale heliplaadile koondatuna on mõeldud eeskätt abivahendiks loodusehuvilisele linnuhäälte tundmaõppimisel looduses. 

Et aga looduse hääled etendavad väga olulist osa ka inimese ilumeele arenemisel ning esteetiliste vajaduste rahuldamisel, siis on käesolevate heliplaatide tegijad siia helipilte valides ning järjestades pidanud oluliseks tuua võimalust mööda kuulajani ka looduse muusika ilu.

Konnade hääled
Sellel heliplaadil leiduvad eesti konnade ja kärnkonnade hääled, kõik salvestatud kevadistel kudepaikadel. Helilindistused on tehtud Eesti Raadio “Looduse aabitsa” saadete tarvis, heliplaadile kogutuna mõeldud aga eelkõige abivahendina loodusehuvilistele konnavaatlustel. 

Ent siia helipilte valides on plaadi tegijad silmas pidanud ka meie konnalaulude ilu. Heliplaadilt ei leia kuulaja häälitsusi veekonnalt Rana esculenta, keda nüüdisajal peetake tiigikonna ja järvekonna (1. külg nr. 2) hübriidiks. 

Konnade hääled on salvestatud stereomagnetofoniga Nagra IV S stereomikrofoni Schoeps CMTS 501 U ja suundmikrofonide C451CB + CK8 paari abil. Heliplaat valmistati ette Eesti Raadios.

Voices of Frogs and Toads
On this record you can listen to Estonian frogs and toads. All the recordings were made at springtime spawning places for the serial broadcast of Estonian Radio "ABC of Nature".

The present selection was primary meant to be a help for nature lovers at frog watching, whereby the peculiar charm of the frogs' voices was duly considered. The water frog Rana esculenta was not included, as it is nowadays considered to be a hybrid of the pool frog and the marsh frog (side 1 and 2).

The recordings were made with a stereo tape recorders Nagra IV S, Shoeps CMTS 501 U and a pair of shotgun microphones C451 СВ + СК8. The recordings were prepared at the Estonian Radio.

Голоса лягушек и жаб
На этой пластинке звучат весенние голоса лягушек и жаб, записанные в местах их икрометания. Записи были подготовлены для передачи "Азбука природы" на Эстонском радио, настоящая же пластинка задумана в первую очередь как пособие для тех, кто интересуется природой, жизнью земноводных; однако при отборе записей учитывалась и чисто эстетическая сторона.

На пластинке не записан голос Rana esculenta, которая в настоящее время считается гибридом прудовой и озерной лягушки (1-я сторона № 2).

Голоса лягушек записаны на стереомагнитофонах Nagra IV S, Shoeps CMTS 501 U с двумя микрофонами направленного действия C451 СВ + СК8. Пластинка подготовлена Эстонским радио.
