"Peoplewatching" is coming out next week on @dtcrecords... my favourite part of making "records" is collaborating and trying to bring styles, sounds and talents together. Sometimes it's done with old friends, sometimes with people I've "cold-called" or just met or just always wanted to work with... sometimes it's a complete surprise and it rocks my world... Such was the case when I went to S.P. Brazil for Kleztival and met percussionist João Parahyba... the first smash of a hi-hat from him made my head turn... WTF IS THAT!!! Wow. Turns out he's a legend who played in something I'd never heard of but have since become addicted to, Trio Mocoto. He took me to his son's studio and recorded over 3 songs on a mostly finished record... conga, bongo, shakers, jeke-jeke, guiro, agogo... I didn't have to, or want to, edit his tracks at all. Sometimes there's so many layers on a track it's hard to hear everything dope that's happening, so here's his performance by itself for a song called "Dreamin'", which also features Freddie Bunz, Mista Sinista, C-Rayz Walz and jazz LEGEND Oliver Jones. Mixed by Renaud Letang. You can hear the finished track here or eventually buy the damn thing on CD or vinyl when it comes out next week........

Unedited posse cut over a ruff beat... We did this like what 5 years ago? I rented a studio and got a fat sack... invited some rapper folk in Montreal and we all hung out and wrote and laid stuff down. This track features Narcy, Cadence Weapon, Joker and Loes. One take of bass by Patrice Agbokou. This kind of thing could get all edited up and mixed and turned into a real song but this is OK too in our world of mixtapes and, like, endless stuff. Violin is Sophie Trudeau from Godspeed, playing my theme song to a silent movie version of the Golem.
