About the series

Economics from the Left is a series dedicated to bringing to the fore the voices of economists from the left, voices much needed in these times of mainstream mediocrity and irrelevance. The worldviews within the series are increasingly more in tune with what the majority of the disenfranchised across the world are coming to understand as their own systemic state of affairs. Underground, rhizomatic, networked and most importantly, viable, these timely responses to the continuous systemic failures of the capitalist system erupt with the possibilities of better things to come and solidarity against the inanity of mainstream discourse. 

About Michael Perelman

Michael Perelman is an American economist and economic historian, currently professor of economics at California State University, Chico. Perelman has written 19 books, including Railroading Economics, Manufacturing Discontent, The Perverse Economy, and The Invention of Capitalism. His 20th book will be published in the latter part of 2012.

From philosophers to theologians, atheists to conspiracy theorists, from those that believe in UFOs to those that are ardent followers of Scientology, at least one commonality arises: belief. It seems that no matter what God one follows (if any at all) or what one looks to beyond the confines of one's own body (if one looks beyond one's own body at all), human beings, in one form or another, must believe in something. This series explores the believers, the locales of their beliefs (within, above, beyond), the effects of their beliefs upon their lives, and the need for human beings to believe in something greater than themselves. 

On Simon Critchley

Simon Critchley is an English philosopher currently teaching at The New School. He works in continental philosophy. Critchley argues that philosophy commences in disappointment, either religious or political. These two axes may be said largely to inform his published work: religious disappointment raises the question of meaning and has to, as he sees it, deal with the problem of nihilism; political disappointment provokes the question of justice and raises the need for a coherent ethics.

B Billy Marse is a Professional, classically trained Geologist. A blue collar, working man’s scholar, vivid, straight to the point, fearless, dirty hands, bloody knuckle, intellectual terrorist.
Billy’s understanding of "Belief" is grounded in solving earth’s 110,000 years Glacial Cycle, which he terms Glacial Respiration. Billy discovered Earth religions are all based solely on two primarily elements: 
One: environmental changes that caused death and suffering in early primitive humans, created religion. He wrote the H2onE2 book to solve earth’s climate cycle and links major global climate change, as a factor found in all of the world’s religions.
Two:  Billy wrote the H3onE3 book to expose the second primary factor that is held in all environmental based religions and this is the requirement for sacrifice.
Billy Marse believes that writers work for themselves and geologists work for large, homicidal corporations. So, Billy lives, writes and starves. To his credit, he has two books, www.H2onE2.com ($1.99 website) and www.H3onE3.com (free to read online), and 10 videos and 11 blogs, which cover an array of stunning topics with plans to turn these blogs into full, researched books given there is a market to produce such works. Since 2011, Billy Marse has focus on producing music because music is viral. Within one year, Billy has produced 47 songs, currently uploaded on Reverbnation. Half of his songs are political and many web sites have removed, banned or restricted his exposure.
He stands, unfunded, unassociated, unencumbered and fiercely independent. He would say, "Move over, or get run off the highway."

Joshua K. (J.K.) Fowler is an adjunct professor in the Sociology and Anthropology Department at Rutgers University in New Jersey, Founding Editor of the nomadic sojourns creative collective, doctoral candidate in Media and Communications at the European Graduate School in Switzerland, member of the PEN American Center and writer and audio engineer currently based in Brooklyn, New York. He received his Masters in Arts from The New School in New York City, where he primarily focused his studies within Anthropology, Development, and the History of Science, and received his Bachelors in Science in Political Science from the University of California, Davis, where he primarily focused his studies within Political Philosophy and History with a focus on SubSaharan Africa.
