Joshua Kyan Aalampour is a 23-year-old self-taught classical composer of Chinese and Iranian descent. Despite being born in New Jersey, he spent a total of 7 years living in China as his parents were entrepreneurs. Because of this, his childhood was marked by a series of unorthodox events and sudden moves.

His musical studies began in 2017 when he decided to teach himself how to play the piano. He used online MIDI videos and other free resources off the internet. With consistent 6-hour practice sessions, he found himself accidentally composing pieces of music. Dumbfounded by this unintentional outcome, he decided to self-study music theory and composition as well. About a year and a half later, he would go on to perform that same accidental composition as a complete piano bagatelle at Lincoln Center. 

Contemporarily, he is working on expanding his compositional style.
