For the release party of Naone's latest EP we had our home brew champ Jotel California open the dancefloor at Zur Klappe in Berlin with a first class warm-up. Warning fam and motivated ravers got down early so the vibe was there from the start and those three hours didn't feel like the beginning of the weekend but a highlight of the week. It‘s been about time that Jo delivers a mix for this series anyway, so here we are for three hours of Trance & Electro - enjoy the ride 🙂

"It’s a Saturday night. You just finished your shift at an asteroid mine in a constellation far far away. You make a pit stop at the Galaxy-808 fueling station to pick up smokes. You get back in your spaceship and keep chugging on your journey home. You’re not familiar with this part of the galaxy but you see the signs for Alpha Centauri so you point your satellites in that direction in hopes of getting some sort of navigation signal. Instead, something strange comes across the radio.

 

“It’s impossible, there can’t be any signals coming from that space junk floating around Planet 303. Planet 303 has been abandoned since 2088,” you think to yourself. You decide to get closer. It’s almost pitch black and there seems to be no life at all in this once flourishing colony. But then you see a mysterious red light next to the door of an old, seemingly abandoned solar energy space plant. You park your spaceship and decide to check it out.

 

You enter this peculiar door and are immediately hit with the wet, hot air from inside. You follow the dim, strobing lights coming from the window of another door at the end of this dripping tunnel. You hear chatter, you hear a beat, you start to feel the bass. The greeter gives you a smile, says “Welcome”, and points down the tunnel towards the door. 

 

You walk down the tunnel, enter the main door, and see a diverse crowd consisting of different beings from various galaxies across the multiverse, dancing, grooving, and sweating to the sounds of the hypnotic beat. In that moment, you realize you’ve stumbled upon one of the infamous celestial raves hidden within the dark depths of space. You begin to relax, your body starts to move, and you too, begin to dance, and groove, and sweat until the wee hours of the morning when the light from the Alpha Centauri starts to peek through the steamy glass windows of the decaying yet very alive factory."

Growing up in Munich, it was the environment of Berlin, and in particular the now defunct underground venue Griessmuehle, that shaped the early sound of Jo, then known as ioth. 
Influenced by local communities and the international music avant-garde, he shaped the sound that became the Jotel California trademark: Melting together trance, house, acid and electro into a bubbling cauldron of progressive energies. 
As a DJ, he's proved his mettle on countless club floors and DIY raves he's organised with friends outside Berlin. 
With releases on labels such as Klasse Wrecks, Inch by Inch and of course his own Warning crew, he quickly made a name for himself among musical connoisseurs and hungry ravers alike.
