Our special guest this week on the Cadenza Music Source to Cycle podcast is Ciprian Iordache.

This Romanian DJ and producer began making beats back in 2009, releasing on the Romanian label Magnetik Groove.

In 2010 he co-founded the Microtech Records label, releasing music from the likes of Mendo, Emerson Todd, Julian Perez, Pele and many others.  Ciprian also has a show on Vibe FM, the leading electronic radio station in Romania.

"Exploraciones" is Shika Shika's new series of releases that unite together two artists from different corners of the world to collaborate on a track and then bring that track to a group of artists to edit or remix. 

For this first session we invited two artists we hugely respect: Chilean trio Matanza and Turkish producer Oceanvs Orientalis. We then invited Jhon Montoya (Colombia / Italy), Carrot Green (Brazil) and History of Colour (Argentina / UK / Mexico) making this a truly global expedition!!

Jhon Montoya is a Colombian violinist and composer. His sound research led him to combine the academic path with electronic experimentation, where he brings the scents of the Andean mountains within European views. His music is a stylish make-up, made of contrasts and new combinations, which manages to marry the wet sound colors deriving from Latin American culture with Western rationalism. Montoya unfolds a story, a path in which his nostalgic strings combined with haunting tropical electro from his homeland create a futuristic and beautiful organic landscape.

@montoyamusic is a colombian violinist and composer. Since 2001 he lives in Italy
His sound research led him to combine electronic experimentation with classical structures.After the albums ‘El viaje’ and ‘Mohs’ (edited by Fábrica), his turning point arrived with ‘IWA’, a record produced by italian label White Forest Records. That new music path reflects the soul of this artist, who’s able to bring the essence of the mountains of the Andes to Europe and at the same time, to reunite the popular and tribal tradition, mixing carefully his culture with the european tradition. 
His music is a fusion of contrasts and refined new combinations, full of wet colors derived from the Latin American culture and mingle with Western rationalism. The short-circuit becomes more evident by the careful selection of electronic sounds and melodies in a constant clash of rhythms and traditions. The particular texture that gives the violin adds to a rich soundscape tribal chants that come from the heart of the jungle.

In these new recordings, Ram Dass’ words speak masterfully to the modern challenges that so many face with technology, dark thoughts, the nature of soul and so much more. "Music For Mushrooms: A Soundtrack For The Psychedelic Practitioner" is a five hour, fully connected journey designed to musically guide a group or individual through an entire psilocybin experience, start to finish. 

This album aims to forge a new shamanic path — one that is birthed of our musical tools and the technology of our time while also honoring and inspired by the rich history of our human relationship to psychedelic plants and fungi. 

My album's compositional shape guides the arch of the ceremony experience. The music of the current psilocybin public research therapy playlists (like those offered by Johns Hopkins and Imperial College) is an amalgamation of tracks by different composers - none of the songs were originally intended for psilocybin. Further, most of these songs are comparatively short. The songs of "Music For Mushrooms: A Soundtrack For The Psychedelic Practitioner" have a slow and gentle growth, an organic progression that aligns with the waves of feeling and experience in the psychedelic journey. This progressive unfolding allows the journeyer to enter into sonic and emotional worlds gradually, to explore the psychic depths with peaceful transitions that allow for time to integrate the experience before moving into the following song or space. 

Additionally, "Music For Mushrooms" integrates original nature field recordings throughout the composition. Field recordings of “that which is still wild”, provides a soothing synthesis of nature into what might otherwise be a staid and sterile therapeutic setting. Sounds of nature can unlock memories, calm our senses, and contain a texture that welcomes our most ancient self home — whether a chorus of crickets or a gentle mountain breeze. 

As mentioned, "Music For Mushrooms: A Soundtrack For The Psychedelic Practitioner" was recorded and improvised live, inside ceremony.  In this way, it contains the ‘energy of the medicine’.  

The new album is intentionally conducive to the psychedelic experience in a variety of additional ways, like avoiding lyrical content so as not to spark the language centers of brain. The record employs falsetto vocalizations throughout, utilizing a non-lyrical language composed primarily of improvised vowels. This allows for the benefits of vocals without the potential language triggers of lyrics. With the live looping technology I employ harmonies and a full choir can develop. 

I’ve always intuitively felt that the solutions our world needs will not come from the top down. Rather, the answers we’ve been looking for will come from the inside out. By exploring our interior landscape to heal our traumas, to root out shame, to learn to love ourselves, we empower our ability to make positive changes that echo out into our lives and the world around us.
