My recent releases have leaned further into the house sound I love playing out: uplifting, melodic, and built for those live moments.
But Dreams of Dreni wandered in a different direction, while still holding onto the emotion and melodic pull that sit at the core of everything I produce.
I wanted this track to feel human. To use vocal textures and organic sounds in a way that creates connection, something you’d share in a moment with a friend, a song that feels like a memory forming in real time.
That feeling really crystallised during a trip through the Albanian Alps. I was staying in a small guest house after hiking from Valbona to Theth, meeting new friends from all over the world. We spent nights trading stories about home, work, and everything else in between. Eventually, they found out I produced music and asked to hear something…
We passed around a pair of headphones, one by one, listening to a few unreleased tracks. There was something grounding about seeing strangers lean in, curious and present, giving real time to something I’d made. Out of all the songs I played, this was the one that stuck with them. They even joked that I should name it Theth, to honour the hike.
That shared moment left a mark on me. The track became tied to that sense of connection; brief, unexpected, but deeply felt. That’s why the artwork is a montage of photos from those four days. They’re little windows into the landscape and energy that shaped the song: lush textures, air, space, movement.
There’s also a small nod hidden in the second breakdown of the vocal mix, a sample from The Streets’ anthem Let’s Push Things Forward. It felt right, like a reminder of the climb, the challenge, and the momentum that carried us to the final peak of the track.
I’m really proud of this one. It’s become one of my favourite things I’ve made, and I hope it resonates with you the way the moment resonated with us up in the mountains.
