‘Nandakke?’ is the anticipated debut album from Japanese-Belgian duo @ailimakesmusic on @eskimorecordings, featuring 10 tracks of surreal electro-pop, joyful electronica, house music and more. 

Lead track ‘Nandakke?’ is sung in the unique version of Japanese that singer Aili Maruyama and her father created to stay connected when she left Tokyo for Europe aged seven. The song goes out to all people with families living in different countries who are finding a way to stay in touch even when language is a barrier. 

“‘Nandakke?’ Is a Japanese word that roughly translates to "Well, what was it?”, often used when you are looking for a specific word," says Aili. "The song is about the language I speak with my dad, a mix of French and Japanese."

*How would you describe your sound?*

It’s funk, disco and house. Percussion is one of the most essential elements in our music! But I also would describe it as summery with the goal that people feel good and want to dance. 

*What and who inspires you and influences your sound?*

We are inspired by so many music and artists. You can hear that in the diversity of our tracks. We are inspired by African music, jazz but also funk, disco and house classics.

*Can you tell us a little about this mix and what it means to you?*

The mix shows the different approaches of our productions we did so far. From live band sound and originals, to remixes and edits.

We're happy to present this beautyful remix from up and coming Japanese artist Yuu Udagawa, whose recent work on labels such as Cyphon, Razor-N-Tape and Compost has been turning heads as of late. She puts a slightly more dance floor twist on Tranquility, a highlight for us of All Is Well's “A Break In Time” album, which was released last November on Compost Records/Drumpoet Community.
