departure into the realm of sleep

This started from a idea to use a 'V - I'  sequence that has been used though out the ages..  (reminds me of a staircase).
It starts with that downward zig-zag in the bass at the start, accompanying the 1st theme.  (The 'zig-zag' motif becomes the main cell for exploitation.. The opening melody is also that - though 4x faster than the bass)
 Then the R.H. in the next sequence uses that bass line  inverted as a melody (going upward) -  and the LH takes the melody from the opening, though played in the relative major -   becoming a 2 part invention.  And then  it continues to morph..  
Initially my  intention was for this to work in my progressive studies book, but I didn't keep the guard rails on…  and it ran away with me.

What does it sound like when a robot has the blues?

Can’t quite tell for other cities, but believe me: this is  the kind of music robots like to listen to in my hometown when they get sad and low.
Buenos Aires is a melancholic city, and robots are not spared.

I won’t be surprised if this track becomes a hit among robots, my vacuum cleaner got weird while I was mixing this earlier this morning.
Me too, mind...

Joy Lisney is a British cellist and composer. She has appeared as a soloist in international venues including the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Queen's Hall Edinburgh, the Leipzig Gewandhaus and St. John's Smith Square. Her most recent tour was a Beethoven Project, performing all five cello sonatas in a single concert and concluded with a sold-out performance at London’s Southbank Centre.

Joy has enjoyed collaborations with artists including Dame Emma Kirkby, Alexander Baillie, Howard Williams, Robert Max and the Wihan Quartet and also performs regularly in duo with her father James Lisney. 

Joy is a passionate advocate of new music and in 2013 she was chosen by Jan Vriend to perform his magnum opus for violoncello and piano, 'Anatomy of Passion', to celebrate his seventy-fifth birthday. In summer of 2014 she performed as a London Sinfonietta Emerging Artist at the BBC Proms in a concert broadcast on Radio 3 to celebrate the 80th birthday of Sir Peter Maxwell- Davies.

As a composer Joy is the 2014-15 recipient of the Ralph Vaughan-Williams Scholarship and the Newton CHESS Award. In November 2014 the Arditti Quartet gave the premiere of her string quartet 'Apparitions' and she is currently working on a commission for the Kings Lynn Festival to be performed in July 2015.
