Part of the album "Mo Anam Cara", which follows the ancient Celtic calendar with a song for every holiday, this song honours the pagan holiday of Imbolc. Imbolc was the welcoming of the first light of spring and associated with the goddess of light Brighid. The ancient Celts used to make a bed for Brighid in their homes, to symbolize inviting light and fertility into their homes. This song and its lyrics make reference to this ritual and speak of the fears that come up when waiting for a new cycle in life (like spring) to begin.

I recorded this song in 2008  in between my albums "As in the Wilderness" and "The Opium Wars"- at a time when everything in my life got turned upside down and I definitely felt the lyrics here. The song brought me comfort then and I hope it does the same for you!

The Beauty Marks cannot express the loss we feel with the passing the magnificent David Bowie. He was endless inspiration to us all from such young ages. Bowie said it best in this song... "I'll leave my love between the stars..."

This is the 7th studio album by Joy Shannon, called "Aes Sídhe" which means people of the otherworld in Irish. The songs are inspired by the Celtic and Nordic mythologies about the afterlife. Also included is a song about the Grey Havens, the elvish afterlife as imagined by Tolkien.

Joy Shannon and the Beauty Marks are a Celtic pagan folk band fronted by the Irish multi-instrumentalist singer Joy Shannon on Celtic harp, cello and harmonium. Taking their name from the birth marks that once could condemn a woman to death for being a witch during the Middle Ages, the Beauty Marks have released 7 studio albums, with two on the way: “As in the Wilderness” (2008), “The Opium Wars or Love in Lieu of Laudanum” (2009), “The Black Madonna” (2010), “Out of My Dreams and Into My Arms” (2011), and “The Oracle” (2013, Kalinkaland Records, Germany), "Mo Anam Cara" (2015, Triple Goddess Records), "Aes Sídhe" (Triple Goddess Records). Shannon takes much of her inspiration for her compositions from Celtic, Nordic and Tolkien mythologies. 
Shannon has collaborated with musicians throughout the dark music genres from Heilung, Gitane Demone of Christian Death to the blacknoise collective T.O.M.B. and Dreadlords. Shannon has performed throughout California, the UK and Europe.
