This string quartet pieces is based on the miracle done by Jesus Christ as stated in bible. It depicts the scene when the disciples move the boat to the other sides and the squall come. They felt frightening but when Jesus said 'Quiet, Be still !' the squall calm down immediately and people is amazed by this miracle.

“On that day, as evening drew on, Jesus said to his disciples: “Let us cross to the other side.”
Leaving the crowd, they took Jesus with them in the boat just as he was. And other boats were with him. A violent squall came up and waves were breaking over the boat, so that it was already filling up.
Jesus was in the stern, asleep on a cushion. They woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” He woke up, rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Quiet! Be still!” The wind ceased and there was great calm.
Then he asked them, “Why are you terrified? Do you not yet have faith?” They were filled with great awe and said to one another,
“Who then is this whom even wind and sea obey?””

Mirthful Journey to Eternity
for Piccolo, Flute, Bassoon, Trumpet, Piano, Violin and Violoncello

“Mirthful Journey to Eternity” follows four imperative messages emphasised in the Bible – creation, sin, judgement and eternal life. God conveyed his messages through the Bible and stated clearly the generations of the heavens and the earth, the sin of the ungodly before the last day come, the promises of eternal life from God before the world began for the Christians believe in Jesus Christ and the God, the scene of the judgments and the New Heaven and the New Earth for those name written in the book of life. Hence, this work is a hope for Christians and the urge for the repentance before the judgments of the LORD God come.

The work is divided into three sections – Creation, Sin and Judgments, Rebirth. The piece begins by the seven church modes to denotes the perfection and completeness of God’s creation and signify the creation of each day. Particularly, the tonality of bassoon and piano is G minor to frame a wonderful feeling for the creation. The middle section is a contrasting but dramatic theme, with the uses of rich harmonic elements, to convey the sin of human beings and the terrify scenes when the judgments of the LORD God comes. The Rebirth section uses the homophonic texture and a chorale-like style to celebrate the come down of New Jerusalem with mirthful, exuberant and jolly feeling. Piccolo specially plays the dance-like melody to reinforce the joyousness in the New Jerusalem with God forever and ever.

Eagle’s Youth

for Clarinet in B♭ and Bassoon 

The “Eagle’s Youth ” is a duet for clarinet and bassoon portraying the gleeful image with our soul as written in the Book of Psalms 103:1-5. First section depicts verse 1 -3 whilst second section illustrates verse 4-5.

Music starts with a motif containing six notes played by clarinet to illustrate the text “Bless the Lord”. This motif will then be varied and integrated with other musical elements. Section A depicts verse 1 – 3 with staccato dominated melody along with a lyrical melodic line occasionally to show the gratitude to the LORD. Then a slow and tender melody open section B to illustrate the action of God to redeem our life from destruction with his mercy and grace, followed by a cantabile melody to thanks LORD for the good things provide for us. The section ends brilliantly to signify our strength is made new again like the eagle’s because of the abundant blessings from the LORD.
