Dj Nomad (@vulkandance & @africaine-808) played at the first 716lavie Party ever (after 9 years of existence), alongside with the French record seller and dj, Boulo Disjoké (@boulo), and this is something big. For the occasion, both have recorded a special mix. Boulo Disjoké made a mix dedicated to the Afro-Caribbean music that was played in the African bars and restaurants in Paris in the 70/80’s.

Dj Nomad’s selection is like a compilation about the Cameroonian Diaspora in Paris in the 80’s :  100% Cameroonian Modern Soul + Disco, Parisian production. We can say that the African scene from that time in Paname (nickname from Paris) has been well represented here. Dig it here and come saturday in Paris at le 9B to hear this guy live, free entrance, 8PM-2AM, the rest is history.

To illustrate this mix, we wanted to use a photo from that era. It was hard to find some in google, until I discovered the amazing work of Bill Akwa Betoté who covered all this scene during twenty years. His work is a unique and exceptional testimony about this scene that has been a cornerstone in the musical and cultural life in Paris. What was happening in Paris at the time was having an influence abroad, some foreigners had their first contact with African music in Paris. Have a look at these photos from Bill they speak by themselves and don’t tell me you don’t want to just travel in time and dance with those people right now. I choose a photo from Princess Erika because the shot is off the hook and she is originally from Cameroon.

The 4th edition in the acclaimed Sterns Edits series sees curator Ben Gomori open up the Sterns Music catalogue to other keen re-editors — with Brownswood / Worldwide genius SMBD (aka Simbad) the first to step up to the plate.

Nigeria's Segun Adewale is sometimes referred to as the 'crown prince' of Jùjú music, but in the 1980s he developed a sound all of his own, which we called Yo-Pop. A mixture of Jùjú, Funk, Reggae, Afrobeat and Jazz, its vibrant melange can be heard on his 1986 record 'Ojo Je', where both these originals are taken from. Here, Gomori takes the uplifting 'Atewo-Lara Ka Tepa Mo'se' for an extended hypnotic, tribal trip ready for the blend. On the flip, SMBD delivers two superb chops of the title track — a gritty Funk-fuelled 'Disco' version with live bass, and a deliciously deep dub-house version. 

The stunning artwork was penned by Kofi Ankobra, who grew up in Ghana and studied art at Oshogbo, Nigeria — the place Adewale himself was born.

Today marks a special moment in Bolting Bits history for us. We are now lucky enough to premiere a track from our very own - Igor Bezuglov! For those that do not know, Igor is one of the major pieces that keep our music blog running behind the scenes. But being a man of many talents, he has been working on his own productions the past few months to deliver us his first tune under his alias @igorbmusic.

Titled Ponteio (which means "bridge" in Portuguese), this song is the A-side of Igor's debut record Águas de Setembro that is set to come out on Peter Croce and Moonlighter's Detroit imprint Rocksteady Disco later this month. Throughout the piece, Igor utilizes the Brazilian original's rolling bassline, impromptu instrumentation, and bittersweet vocals to capture what everyone's feeling this time of year. Although many of us understand that cold months lay ahead, we are also eager to keep the good times going no matter what - and it's this palpable optimism that makes the song the perfect soundtrack as we transition from summer into autumn across the northern hemisphere.

Erik Sumo – Run into The Wild (Mytron & Ofofo remix) from the forthcoming Budabeats EP BUBE-041

Erik Sumo is one of the most established Hungarian music producers of the last 20 years. His various acts gained national and international, underground and mainstream success, he scored movies - think of the now cult ‘Liza, The Fox Fairy’ soundtrack released on one of the early Budabeats 7”-s. His latest album ‘Mount Fuji’ came out in November 2019, it contains ‘Run Into The Wild’, an odd yet catchy leftfield floor filler with an unmistakable mood built of glamorous disco vibes and sinister imaginings from the woods around Fujisan and. On this EP you can hear the previously unreleased disco dub version of the song and 3 remixes bringing the original to completely different directions.

This is the first time you can listen to the rework done by Mytron & Ofofo of Multiculti fame, who chose to go the tribal way by adding some extra percussion and reconstructing the chorus, making the track even more dance floor friendly than it was originally.

Release date is the 14th of September, you can buy the EP in all big online record stores but the limited sticker sealed edition is only available at the Budabeats Bandcamp page:
