For my third Conversation, I am delighted to have an exclusive mix from the highly respected up & coming DJ and producer Ian Dillon.

Ian Dillon is a UK based Dj & producer who’s approach to Djing has often been described amongst his peers as unique. A style forged by the influential boxed global underground series and of particular note sasha and john digweed. Ian’s style fuses both of these influences combining dark driving basslines with the ethereal melodies, soundscapes and atmospheric ambience textures. Host of Decoded Magazine's globally syndicated radio show sees Ian present exclusive new music and with guest mixes from the industrys elite. His djing has seen Ian play alongside John Digweed, Guy J, Dave Seaman, Dale Middleton, Ian Ossia, Steve Parry, Soulfinder to name just a few both in the UK & Abroad. Welcome to Conversations, my new monthly radio slot for Saturo Sounds radio. The idea behind the show is to ask one of my favourite DJ’s to do a guest mix, which I use as inspiration for my set.

For my first Conversation, the name at the top of my list of people to ask was an old friend of mine and Gateway to Zen resident, Nick Craddock.

I met Nick at University through our mutual love of music and clubbing and he ended up learning how to mix on my old belt drive decks! Nick has come a long way in the last 20 years - having held a number of residencies throughout the 2000s; perhaps most notably with Lakuti and Portable's Süd Electronic parties. These days, he runs his own night: Gateway To Zen, and has a busy schedule as a guest DJ. In 2014, FACT listed him amongst their '100 underrated DJs who deserve more shine', and his momentum continues to grow. Some key dates in the last few years include Fabric with Hessle Audio, Bloc Festival, Boiler Room with Karenn, Acetate and Butter Side Up in Leeds, shows in London for Black Atlantic and Make Me, Selective Hearing in Manchester, Twisted Pepper in Dublin, Sub Club in Glasgow, trips to Paris, Bordeaux, Berlin and Estonia, and a live session for Dommune in Tokyo.

Nick has his own monthly radio show on KMAH, and under the Gateway To Zen banner on Radar Radio. Prior to that, he's been a frequent guest on NTS and appeared on both Rinse FM London and Paris. He's contributed podcasts to: FACT, Smoke Machine, Electronic Explorations, Fabric, Sonotown, SeekSickSound, Input Selector, Butter Side Up and more. Three of his mixes have been picked up by Resident Advisor for their 'Mix of the Day' slot. He also compiled and mixed a cassette release for the Paris-based Collapsing Market crew in 2015.

Jamie is a veteran of the early UK prog house scene where he spent many weekend attending the a myriad of nights  from Renaissance in the North to Babelicious in the south. His avid collection of vinyl lead him into the DJ stage where he would regularly play out at underground clubs and bars across London and the home counties through the 90’s.  After moving to Toronto and a 10 year layoff from the music scene, he rediscovered his love of deep electronic music again after listening to a live John Digweed set from Bedrock at the end of 2013 which reignited his passion and he once again he started collecting music and mixing again. He has broad tastes across all electronic music but likes the deeper 4/4 sounds and his sets typically build from laid back house through to driving techno with his smooth mixing style influenced by DJ’s such as Jimmy Van M, Lee Burridge, Sasha and Laurent Garnier.

Welcome to Conversations, my monthly radio slot for Saturo Sounds radio. The idea behind the show is to ask one of my favourite DJ’s to do a guest mix, which I use as inspiration for my set.

For my fifth Conversation, I am delighted to have an exclusive mix from the very talented DJ and producer Erik Bruce.

A South Coast based Progressive/Techno dj and producer, Erik's love affair with electronic music started shortly after he was born. "Music was always being played in the house as I was growing up. Dr Hook, Pink Floyd, Jean Michel Jarre, Tomita, blues, jazz, classical but it was the long car journeys during the school holidays with Jarre playing that really cemented my love of electronic music." Taking in everything from deep house to techno, progressive trance to breaks, Erik's sets are a melting pot of lush soundscapes and haunting melodies sitting side by side with techno beats and energy infused basslines. Erik's productions are also gaining support from Cristian Varela, Paul Bleasdale, Anderson Noise, Scotty.A and more. Conversations 05 JP Erik Bruce SaturoSounds

John-Paul was raised in West Yorkshire in the UK and has been obsessed with dance music ever since hearing Sasha at Back to Basics in the early nineties. Labels such as Strictly Rythmn, Limbo and Guerilla shaped his teenage years, as did weekly trips to Renaissance, Up yer Ronson and Cream to pay homage to his heroes - Sasha & John Digweed. John-Paul began DJing in pubs in Yorkshire when he was just 16, but it wasn't until he moved to London that he found the scene he was looking for.

Running club nights soon followed, alongside long-time collaborator Robin Arnold – including the legendary 'Biotech' parties on the south coast. Everything clicked into place with his Farringdon based night 'Futurism', located around the corner from Fabric. The essence of the night was to push DJ's that were thought to represent the future of progressive house, and John-Paul DJed alongside exceptional talents such as Steve Gerrard, Nigel Marcussen and Matt Simpson. In 2005 John-Paul moved to the USA, and quickly found like-minded DJs such as Jeffrey Collins and Quantum, and immediately gained a monthly residency in The Pearl Bar in Columbus, Ohio.

John-Paul has since returned to the UK and secured a residency on Saturo Sounds Radio. He runs a monthly show called 'Conversations', which has been running for over 7 years. The idea behind the show is to ask one of his favourite DJs to do a guest mix, which he uses as inspiration for his set. It's following has gone from strength to strength, with fantastic mixes from the likes of Ian Dillon, Kiz Pattison, Samuel Lamont, Nick Craddock and many more up & coming DJ's. He’s also provided guest mixes for Subcode Radio, Progressive House Classics, MixPub, Proton and many more. 

Recently John-Paul and Robin Arnold have brought the Futurism brand back to life, with their own label and productions. Their first ‘Collective Futurism EP’ is being released on Saturo Sounds label in 2023. Both tracks and remixes 'Vladivostok' and 'Third fiddle' have been getting fantastic feedback and support from a lot of great DJs.

Always passionate about pushing the deep and dark, intelligent sounds represented in his mixes, John-Paul continues to move with the scene, but never deviates from the progressive sound that first moved him nearly 30 years ago.
