Golden Era Mix Episode II for Shade 45 (((Broadcasted Jan 1, 2014)))

This mix is all about education. What you have in this mix are some of my favorite hip-hop records (well, Alicia Keys isn't really hip-hop, but whatever, Kanye did his thing on that track) paired back-to-back with their original samples. Uncovering original samples and mixing them with their hip-hop counterparts is something I've been obsessed with for a while. This is what I originally intended to do on my radio show on WNYU, but I ended up just playing strictly original jazz, funk, and soul tracks that have been sampled over the years. Some of these joints you'll probably recognize, and some you may not. But, at the end of the day, hopefully, it will open your eyes on how some of the illest producers in the game can re-create and flip great, and sometimes mediocre tracks, into some amazing and timeless hip-hop. Enjoy.

But the fact that he’s worked with everyone from Biggie to Jay-Z to Nas to KRS-One makes his discography pretty much incomparable. And we’re not talking about obscure cuts that lost their appeal years ago. These are timeless songs! So for today’s edition of The 10s, we present Primo Treats: 10 Classic Non-Gangstarr Primo Joints. We’ll probably have to do a part two and three to this because dude has worked with everyone we love and always comes correct.
