The self styled ‘Mixtape Champion of the World’, Chris Read joins forces with MPM Recording Artist and 2 time ITF Champion Marc Hype to present what they’re humbly calling ‘The World’s Greatest Christmas Mixtape’; 

These two seasoned DJs and record collectors have produced two mixes which take in everything that Christmas music has to offer, from Funk, Soul, Jazz and Hip Hop to Children’s records, Reggae and Latin with a handful of better known Christmas classics thrown in for good measure. 

All intended to be taken in good humour and a dose of Christmas cheer, ‘The World’s Greatest Christmas Mixtape’ is the alternative soundtrack to Christmas. 

Chris Read is currently working on a new live / studio project anticipated for release in 2010. Marc Hype and Jim Dunloop’s Album ‘Stamp Out Reality’ on MPM records is in stores now. Both Chris Read and Marc Hype will tour extensively in 2010.

Deutschrap kennt ihn als kongenialen Sidekick von Haiyti aka Robbery, Noisey war “phantomverliebt” seit Tag eins. Mit seiner ersten EP mit dem KitschKrieg-Kollektiv tritt Joey Bargeld nun selbst ins Scheinwerferlicht. Das flackert, Ehrensache, finsterer als die Festtagsbeleuchtung anderer Leute. Kopf aus. Bass rein. Lampen an. Der letzte echte Punk ist da.

In einer Zeit, in der jeder mit einem Fotofilter hemmungslos seine Celebrity-Fantasien ausleben kann, ist Joey Bargeld eine echte Ausnahmeerscheinung. Der Hamburger ist der geborene Superstar aus dem finstersten Underground, ein Mysterium mit maximal einnehmendem Wesen, das man umgekehrt nie wirklich zu fassen bekommt. Er vereint die die Abgrunde, die wir alle in uns tragen, mit dem Charisma großer Frontmanner wie Johnny Rotten, Keith Flint oder Quavo. Er ist Weiberheld, Weirdo und Weltstar von Geburt. Aber ist auch voller Narben, die die Bruche in seiner Biografie erahnen lassen. Joey Bargeld ist wie du und ich. Nur halt sehr, sehr viel mehr davon.

Nach Jahren des eher ziellosen Irrens zwischen Musik als Hobby und Straße als Lebensinhalt hat er nun ein Umfeld gefunden, in dem sein eigenwilliger, oft verstörender Stil urplötzlich allen Sinn der Welt ergibt. KitschKrieg führen ihn weiter weg von seinen Wurzeln im Straßenrap, in eine unbestimmte Dunkelheit. Bereits für seine Haiyti-Features wie “Akku” oder “Zeitboy” arbeitete Bargeld mit dem Produzenten-Team aus Kreuzberg; im Februar war er mit der Crew auf ausverkaufter Deutschland-Tour. Nun führen sie gemeinsam fort, was einst mit einem magischen Studio-Moment nach drei Tagen vollumfänglicher Verballerung in Berlin begann: Loslassen als Strategie, Durchdrehen als Lösung.

Der Opener “Bargeld (Cash Cash Cash)” ist dabei gleichzeitig Ermächtigungshymne, Erkennungsmelodie und Einleitung eines neuen Kapitels. “Ich will Bargeld, du willst Bargeld, Cash / Er will Bargeld, sie will Bargeld, Cash”, brüllt Joey Bargeld, eine Mischung aus lauter Katharsis und leiser Kapitalismuskritik auf 808-Basis. “THC” mit Trettmann ist die wohl düsterste Kiffer-Hymne aller Zeiten. Und “Trap Haus” beschreibt das ganze Elend des ewigen Kreislaufs aus Versuchung und Geschäft: “Langsam geh’n die Lichte aus / Einer kauft, einer verkauft / Verlauf dich nicht im Trap Haus / ein paar geh’n rein, ein paar geh’n drauf.” Das ist die Superkraft von Joey Bargeld: noch die komplexesten Zusammenhänge des menschlichen Daseins auf ihre Essenz zu kondensieren – und einen dabei hineinzuziehen in seine Welt, ohne dass man so recht wüsste, was da gerade geschieht.
Der letzte Song “Bounce” schließlich ist die Party, die bekanntlich immer auf den Kater folgt. Er klingt, als wäre Jungle auf der Hamburger Schanze erfunden worden – bevor die Werber kamen, versteht sich. Trappy Hardcore, Bassline House, Hardcore-Shouting, Abriss. “Bargeld im Haus, ich schwör, alle kommen,” lallt es unter dem extra-rohen Breakbeat. Wer trotzdem daheim bleibt, soll bloß nicht sagen, er sei nicht gewarnt worden. Mehr demnächst.
